Baltimore Ravens Training Camp: Week 1 Stock Report
The Baltimore Ravens are now over a week into training camp.
There's still a month away until regular-season games are played, but the preseason will be here in the next week for Baltimore.
Thus far in camp, several Ravens have had great performances that are boosting their standings on the roster. On the other end, a poor training camp showing has lowered the stock of some players.
With that said, here's a stock report for Ravens who have either helped or hurt their stock through the first week of camp.
Stock Up: Buck Allen
1 of 4
Of the Ravens running backs who've stood out, rookie Buck Allen is making some noise early on in camp.
Allen was drafted in the fourth round out of USC in this year's NFL draft after rushing for 1,489 yards and 11 scores this past year. Regarded as a versatile back with good elusiveness, Allen has been displaying just that through the first week of camp.
"#Ravens RB Buck Allen is hitting the holes with authority. Very sudden cutbacks.

Allen also caught 41 passes for 458 yards and one score in his final year of college. He's put those hands on display and shown he can be a good pass-catcher out of the backfield.
"Buck Allen keeps impressing. Just had nice td reception after juking Albert McClellan causing him to slip.

"@mwyche22 Easy to see why Ravens drafted him for this offense. Great hands and elusive after the catch.

If Allen can keep this up, he'll not only be the No. 2 running back behind starter Justin Forsett, but also may even earn significant carries as a rookie.
After all, Forsett does turn 30 years old in October, a scary number for an NFL back. Giving Allen a lot of carries could be something Baltimore looks to do in order to preserve Forsett for what they hope will be a deep playoff run.
Whatever happens, Allen is too talented to keep off the field, even as a rookie. Expect to see plenty of him in 2015 and beyond.
Stock Down: Breshad Perriman
2 of 4
Breshad Perriman has not had the kind of start the wide receiver envisioned to begin his NFL career.
Drafted in the first round (28th overall) out of UCF in this year's draft, Perriman was widely expected to take over one of the starting receiver spots as a rookie.
Ideally, he'd replace Torrey Smith, a deep-threat specialist who left to sign with the San Francisco 49ers this offseason. Perriman is also a receiver who does much of his damage down the field with the deep ball.
However, Perriman hasn't been doing much of anything to this point in training camp. That's because Perriman banged his knee on the ground during the team's first camp practice.
That caused a bruised knee that's sidelined the rookie for every practice since.
"“I want him out here right now,” head coach Johns Harbaugh said, via Jon Meoli of the Baltimore Sun. “He wants to be out there, but [the trainers] are holding him back. It’s probably smart — they’re smarter than Breshad, I know that.”
"
Valuable repetitions and opportunities to acclimate himself to the NFL game is what Perriman is missing out on while injured. As talented as he is, the Ravens won't just hand a prominent role in the offense over to the unproven Perriman unless he earns it.
Until then, Perriman is falling behind the eight ball as camp rolls on with him sitting on the sideline.
Stock Up: Kamar Aiken
3 of 4With Breshad Perriman out and Torrey Smith now gone, there is a wide-open race for the No. 2 receiver spot next to Steve Smith Sr.
Thus far in camp, Kamar Aiken is the one taking advantage of it. We predicted Aiken would be one of Baltimore's standouts in training camp, and he's not disappointing.
The journeyman receiver now has a starting spot within his grasp, and he's doing a good job of grabbing it through one week of camp.
As you can see in the video above, Aiken has been making some spectacular catches in which he's made great adjustments to track the ball and bring it in with a defender all over him.
That's also what ESPN's Jamison Hensley noted of Aiken during a camp session last week: "Aiken made difficult grabs on two Matt Schaub passes that sailed behind him while running across the middle."
Aiken was also singled out by Jon Meoli of the Baltimore Sun as a Raven who has seen his stock rise in camp thus far.
""Aiken has stepped up as a primary target beside wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. He’s shown an ability to adjust to the ball mid-route, makes defenders miss, and seems to glide around the field. Aiken was happy to find a home in Baltimore last year after bouncing from practice squad to practice squad early in his career. He wants more than that this year — a starting job — and it’s showing."
"
This has been exactly the kind of start Aiken needed to have to put his foot in the door of that starting spot. Now, it's up to him to hold off Perriman once the rookie is able to begin practicing again.
It's only a knee bruise that's kept Perriman sidelined, and he should be back any day now. Aiken's had a great showing thus far, but we're still a month away from regular-season football.
Still, Aiken has shown no signs of letting up. Expect this to be a highly contested battle as camp rolls on.
Stock Up: Timmy Jernigan
4 of 4
When the Ravens traded Haloti Ngata to the Detroit Lions this offseason, it was a clear sign Timmy Jernigan was in for a bigger role in Baltimore's defense in 2015.
Jernigan showed flashes last year as a pass-rusher, primarily from the defensive tackle spot where he'll likely start at this year.
He did so well that Grantland tabbed him as one of their notable pass-rushers to watch for this coming year.
Thus far in training camp, Jernigan has shown why Baltimore is counting on him to assume a starting role this year. He's getting great push against a stout Ravens offensive line and living in the backfield early on in camp.
"Timmy Jernigan was in the backfield instantly but Terrence Magee was able to avoid the tackle. Jernigan has been getting a push all camp.
— TURRON DAVENPORT (@TDavenport_NFL) August 3, 2015"
Jon Meoli of the Baltimore Sun also writes that Jernigan is looking to improve his overall game, wants to become a factor on run defense and has made strides in that area so far in camp.
If Baltimore's defense is to remain elite in 2015, it almost certainly will involve Jernigan having a big year along the defensive line.
