Lacy Leaves Practice With Soreness
Tuesday, Aug. 4
"Eddie had some foot soreness," head coach Mike McCarthy said, via Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com. "They just pulled him out there near the end."
Demovsky noted the Packers don't practice on Wednesday and will have meetings before returning to the field on Thursday, giving Lacy time to recover.
Some wondered if the 25-year-old might have a sophomore slump in 2014, but the exact opposite proved true. While Lacy's total rushing yards fell from 1,178 to 1,139, his yards-per-carry average jumped half-a-yard to 4.4 yards. He also caught 42 passes for 427 yards and four touchdowns.
As long as Aaron Rodgers is still taking the snaps under center, the Packers will always rely heavily on the passing game. But having a running back as talented as Lacy certainly makes Rodgers' life easier by keeping the opposing defense honest.
James Starks, who finished the practice in Lacy's place, will be deputized as his replacement. While Starks isn't an ideal replacement, he's at least a proven commodity in the league.
Losing Lacy obviously hurts the Packers, but the presence of Rodgers will also help to soften the blow.
