WWE Money in the Bank 2015 Results: Biggest Highlights and Low Points

Anthony MangoJun 14, 2015

WWE Money in the Bank is almost always one of the most influential and entertaining pay-per-views of the year, and the 2015 edition seemed poised to fit the bill yet again.

The WWE World Heavyweight Championship would hang in the balance based on the outcome of two different ladder matches featuring Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins and the men fighting for the Money in the Bank briefcase.

After their stellar match at Elimination Chamber, Kevin Owens and John Cena were set to face off yet again. Was that as good or better than before, or did WWE make a mistake by trying to repeat success?

With nearly every title in the company being defended, lots of bragging rights on the line and the potential to see the entire landscape of the roster change in one night with a cash-in, Money in the Bank had tons of promise.

What were the positives that helped make this show live up to the hype and what were the negatives that failed the WWE Universe's expectations?

It's time once more to take a look at the biggest highlights and low points of the night, presented in order of appearance.

Highlight: Tribute to Dusty Rhodes

1 of 7

As expected, the pay-per-view started with a 10-bell salute in honor of Dusty Rhodes.

After he died, it was assumed that there would be some kind of a tribute to the legend, but WWE has had a wide variety of means to do this over the years.

Once in a while, there's nothing but a graphic that appears on the screen. More often than not, a video package airs with some of that person's greatest moments cut together. However, none of the options outdoes ringing the bell and the moment of silence.

The fans popped big with a chant for The American Dream, and it was a great sign of respect.

Highlight: Money in the Bank Ladder Match

2 of 7

It's doubtful that this will go down as one of the more memorable Money in the Bank matches of all time, as there weren't a lot of spots that stood out, but it still had its moments.

Many will be fond just of the outcome of the match alone, as Roman Reigns still has his detractors. Although the crowd is not as hostile toward him as earlier this year, there's still a portion of the audience that will be happy to see him without the briefcase.

Sheamus winning was a bit of a swerve—particularly with Bray Wyatt's interference—so some points are awarded to the match for that surprise factor.

Some of the highlights are as far out as moves go, including Dolph Ziggler's Zig Zag off the ladder, as well as Reigns launching himself over the top rope and powerbombing Neville and Kingston multiple times.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the future with The Celtic Warrior going forward after his big victory here.

Highlight: Nikki Bella vs. Paige

3 of 7

After some problematic matches over the past few months, this was finally a Divas Championship fight that was entertaining enough to justify the time it was given.

Paige and Nikki Bella had their best match so far and ended it with a fun little twist on the "Twin Magic" concept, as Paige actually pinned Brie.

This was quickly ruled an invalid win, when the referee realized his mistake, which opened up an opportunity for Nikki to capitalize and hit her finisher for the win.

Your thinking may vary on whether or not the title should have changed hands, so it's possible people will be disappointed in Paige not winning it, but at least the outcome was something different.

Low Point: Ryback vs. Big Show

4 of 7

It's always a disappointment when a pay-per-view match ends in a disqualification, even if it was easily predictable.

Ryback and Big Show started off their match with a lot of intensity, but this eventually resulted in some interference by The Miz, ending it prematurely.

Essentially, you can boil this down to nothing but filler to stall for a Triple Threat match at Battleground. When a pay-per-view match has little substance other than to build to another event, it renders this segment somewhat pointless.

This could have been a good opportunity to have Ryback go over and prove his value as the new intercontinental champion, but WWE felt the need to make it more of a Raw segment than anything else.

Highlight: John Cena vs. Kevin Owens

5 of 7

Who would have thought that these two would be able to surpass the quality of their match at Elimination Chamber?

Kevin Owens and John Cena had the best match of the night, where both men looked as strong as ever from start to finish.

At no point in this match did the action ever really slow down, yet there were so many times where the audience felt as if it would end. Those false finishes helped boost the fun and the surprise element throughout, particularly when Cena seemed to have lost all hope.

Some people will undoubtedly be upset that Owens did not win this, but the post-match powerbomb should significantly calm that anger.

With both men using a wide variety of impressive maneuvers, tons of reversals and a strong showing on both their parts, there's no reason to believe that a third match between the two won't be just as good—if not even better.

Highlight: The New Day vs. the Prime Time Players

6 of 7

The New Day rocks, but in terms of keeping things kayfabe, The Prime Time Players winning the championship is definitely a highlight.

Naturally, a portion of the audience will be happy, and some of us will be upset at the title change, but the match itself was still entertaining enough to justify this being on the positive side of things rather than a negative.

The surprise factor comes into play here as well, as most people easily wrote Darren Young and Titus O'Neil off as being throwaway opponents for Big E and Xavier Woods. Not many people truly expected the titles to be in jeopardy.

Will The New Day win the belts back with an inevitable rematch? Has the landscape of the tag team division changed?

We will just have to tune in to find out, which means this match was entertaining and also helped build some interest for what comes next.

Highlight: Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose

7 of 7

When you put someone like Dean Ambrose in the ring with a person whom he knows as well as Seth Rollins, you know the result is going to be a fun brawl.

This match lived up to that hype and seemed particularly brutal, even down to the clotheslines and regular maneuvers, let alone the ladder spots.

A few months ago, Ambrose appeared to be stuck in the midcard, but he's validated his worthiness in the main event as of late. In this match, he showcased why he's too good for a lower spot on the card yet again.

In the same regard, Rollins has been an incredibly versatile champion, wrestling in a wide variety of match types and pulling out all the stops every time. There may be no person better on the roster to have been trusted with his spot than him, as he never disappoints.

While the Money in the Bank briefcase match was a bit lacking in spots, this one made up for it just in powerbombs alone, particularly when it comes to the ones that Rollins applied to Ambrose on the security barricade.

There were plenty of hard-hitting, nerve-wracking moments that will make this very memorable for the future.

What did you think of Money in the Bank? Was this a good pay-per-view, or did it fall short of your expectations?

What would you classify as the best and the worst moments of the night?
