Miller Expected to Return to Closer Role
Tuesday, July 7
Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reported Miller will return to the Yankees on July 8, along with Jacoby Ellsbury. The move will push Dellin Betances into the setup spot and Miller will assume closer duties, according to Hoch.
Miller has been fantastic in his first season with the Yankees, posting a 1.03 ERA with 17 saves, 43 strikeouts and just eight hits allowed in 26.1 innings. His presence in the back of the bullpen is one of the reasons New York has been on a tear lately, winning seven straight games prior to Wednesday's loss against the Washington Nationals.
Fortunately, the Yankees had an even better reliever to throw in Miller's spot. Betances picked up right where he left off last year with a minuscule 0.28 ERA, 54 strikeouts and 11 hits allowed in 32.1 innings. However, Jon Morosi of Fox Sports brought up a good point regarding the Yankees bullpen:
Miller's return will certainly add depth to the Yankees bullpen.
