Leo Santa Cruz vs. Jose Cayetano

After bouts with Settoul and Alexis Santiago fell through, event organisers had to resort to Cayetano to give Santa Cruz a chance to fight on the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao card. To say fans are a little underwhelmed would be an understatement.

ESPN's Dan Rafael was fairly blunt in his assessment:

UCNLive.com's Steve Kim took things one step further:

Santa Cruz's WBC title won't be on the line in the 10-round fight, and Cayetano doesn't even come close to being a contender at 122 pounds. This fight has "blowout" written all over it, as Santa Cruz doesn't want to do anything to potentially disrupt his chances of setting up a bout with Abner Mares.

Cayetano lost his last fight, against unheralded Enrique Bernache, and looks like the latest in a long line of underwhelming opponents for Santa Cruz. There is some good news, however. The 26-year-old clearly likes to swing, and he should at the very least make the bout entertaining:

Why Santa Cruz opted to fight Cayetano over Bernache remains a mystery.

Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Gamalier Rodriguez

Vasyl Lomachenko's bout against veteran Gamalier Rodriguez should be about as competitive as Santa Cruz's fight against Cayetano. The Ukrainian's presence on Saturday's card is a prime opportunity for Top Rank to showcase their latest star, who has translated a storied amateur career into early and almost unprecedented success as a pro.

One look at the odds for this fight should tell you all you need to know. RingMagazine's Ryan Songalia isn't expecting much:

Rodriguez is a rugged, tough fighter, but Lomachenko is a budding superstar who needs this kind of exposure to secure a unification bout against Nicholas Walters. He should waltz all over his opponent on Saturday on his way to a clear win by stoppage or unanimous decision.

As reported by ESPN's Dan Rafael, even Top Rank chairman Bob Arum admitted his spot on the card is about exposure, more than his title defence:

"

I'm his biggest fan and I was from the beginning. I thought this guy was amazing and it's an honor to promote him. I want the fans on May 2 to see a typical Lomachenko display of all of his talents, his smarts, his body punching. He's an extraordinary talent and this is a good platform to exhibit that talent before the biggest possible audience.

"

Now, Rodriguez is a fine fighter in his own right. He's won his last 17 professional bouts and has every reason to be in the ring with Lomachenko, unlike Cayetano, who will effectively be replacing a replacement against Santa Cruz.

But Lomachenko is one of the biggest rising stars in the sport for a reason, and on Saturday, casual boxing fans will find out why.
