2015 Atlanta Falcons Potential Draft-Pick Profile: OL Reese Dismukes

Scott CarasikApr 26, 2015

The Atlanta Falcons have a need along the offensive line to get deeper, and Reese Dismukes of Auburn is a late-round or undrafted free-agent candidate to potentially join the Falcons in 2015. Dismukes is from Alabama and could be a great fit for the Falcons' depth needs.

Dismukes would be able to play either guard spot or center in the offense and has the athleticism to be a factor for the Falcons long term. Good, cheap depth is tough to find in the NFL, and the Falcons could find it here with Dismukes.

Scouting Report

Strengths

As a four-year starter, Dismukes showed a ton of power and drive on his run blocks. He can bully players downfield and understands how to keep his weight low if he maintains his proper extension and doesn't reach for defenders. He has quickness to get to the second level effectively.

He has a nasty attitude that shows up on the field, as he continually plays through the whistle. He's extremely durable and has great punch. His line calls are also effective and properly put his offensive linemen in position to take on any blitzes they saw at Auburn.

Weaknesses

There are times when Dismukes doesn't get the snap off properly and winds up allowing players to get a better jump off the ball than normal. He has trouble maintaining his leverage, and at times he tends to reach for defenders and gets overextended because of it.

He doesn't have the quickness to hold up well against the quickest interior guys like Aaron Donald and will need help regardless of where he plays. He also has functional-strength questions related to the issues he has with his balance and overextension.

How does he fit the Comrade Filter?

Dismukes has a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde past off the field. While he was an amazing leader for the offensive line in college, he was arrested at one point for public intoxication back in 2012. While that doesn't appear to be something major to worry about, it is an arrest that teams should look into.

Because of that arrest, he missed a game during the 2012 season as punishment. He also missed a game due to an injury. However, those were the only two games in his entire career that he wound up missing for any reason. If the Falcons are OK with the arrest issues in his past, they'll have a good fit.

Overview

Dismukes is a talented player who will provide some great depth to a team once he gets to the NFL. He's a better fit for a power-blocking scheme than a true zone-blocking scheme. He's not overly athletic, and teams will ask him to bulk up a bit from the 296 he weighed in at during the combine.

Teams will let him slide to the late rounds due to his lack of athleticism. However, he compares favorably to Todd McClure and could have the potential to eventually become the next McClure one day. If a team can pull his potential out of him, he's worth every down that he'll play for it.

How he would fit into the Falcons' plans

The Falcons could likely get away with waiting until the seventh round to take Dismukes and still get him on the roster. He's not an ideal fit for the zone scheme as a guard, but he is a solid fit for the scheme as a center and could be a backup at guard.

With Joe Hawley entering a contract year, getting a potential replacement isn't a terrible idea. But the Falcons could do better than Dismukes for the spot. He'll likely be a backup at best in the pros and should be a great sixth or seventh offensive lineman on the roster long term.
