Bray Wyatt Needs to Be Given a Strong Push After WWE WrestleMania 2015

Tom ClarkMar 26, 2015

Bray Wyatt will attempt to bury the reaper on March 29 when he faces The Undertaker at WrestleMania 31.  The match that many fans feel has perhaps the best booking on the card will surely deliver, as Wyatt has something to prove on the worldwide stage.

And whether he wins or loses, The Eater of Worlds should get a main event spot after WrestleMania is over.

Wyatt is getting the match of a lifetime at Mania; there is no doubt about it.  Undertaker has not faced very many young Superstars over the past several years but instead has usually worked with more established veterans.

Shawn Michaels, Triple H, CM Punk and Brock Lesnar all stepped up to the plate, and only one man walked away with the win.  Lesnar's victory at WrestleMania 30 may have added to his legacy but did very little in terms of pushing him further up the food chain.

Brock was already a big star; beating Taker didn't do much to make him any bigger.

But this year, it's less about wining and losing.  This time it's more about the match itself and the repercussions it will have on the career of the man challenging The Phenom. Wyatt doesn't necessarily need to win at WrestleMania to be considered a player in WWE.

At this point, it can be argued he's already there.

Taker works once a year now.  That means whoever steps into the ring with him must surely get his stamp of approval.  Undertaker would likely not waste his time against someone he didn't feel could handle himself and make the match look good.

Wyatt is the one chosen, and unlike the four Superstars Taker faced previously, he has no main event experience to draw from.  This is only his second real test on the Mania stage, with the first coming last year against John Cena.

But unlike that match, losing now will not set Wyatt back at all.  In fact, it should do the exact opposite.

WWE has been promoting the idea of the future.  It's an idea used on TV all the time, from NXT to Seth Rollins as The Authority's golden boy to Roman Reigns' ascension as possibly the next WWE world heavyweight champion.

And the more WWE pursues this train of thought, the more obvious it becomes that plans are in the works to get the company into its next phase.

The only way to make that happen is to give tomorrow's stars a chance today.  And of all those stars working to get over, Wyatt may have the toughest challenge of all on March 29, but he may have the most rewarding one as well.

Rollins can lose against Randy Orton and live to fight another day.  Reigns can walk away empty-handed versus Lesnar and still have a shot in the very near future.  But if Wyatt does not look the part at WrestleMania, he may not get the main event spot he needs to evolve.

Of course, if he comes through, his star will shine brighter than ever before.

Going toe-to-toe with The Undertaker will put more spotlight on Wyatt than fans can possibly imagine. It's the rub that will get him over, the fight he that will add value to his career.  And that career should reach new heights after WrestleMania is in the books.

If Reigns wins the title on March 29, he will need a great heel to face; Wyatt could be that heel. It's a feud that could draw from the perfect backstory: The Wyatt Family versus The Shield.  It would also pit a struggling babyface against an established heel, as Wyatt could strengthen Reigns in many ways.

And if Lesnar is to retain the title and turn babyface in the process, why not pit Wyatt against him?

Lesnar is a visceral, animalistic force of nature who relies on brutality and physicality to carry him through his career.  He kicks and stomps and bashes his way through one opponent after another, and while it's effective, he does open himself up to attacks of a psychological kind.

Undertaker may have played mind games with Lesnar, but it's nothing compared to the onslaught Wyatt would bring.  And that onslaught could actually come from Wyatt as a protagonist instead of a heel. He is popular with WWE fans, and even though he's a great villain, he doesn't have to spend the rest of his career as one.

There are options for Wyatt after Mania, and if he delivers in a great match, those options should include a main event push.  This is Wyatt's time to show what he can do, to prove he is one of the future stars who deserves the spotlight and can help carry WWE forward.

Facing The Undertaker and giving as good as he gets is the best way to start.
