Jerzy Dudek Suggests Iker Casillas' Form Has Been Affected by Becoming a Father

Sean FayMar 11, 2015

Iker Casillas' form for Real Madrid has not been the best recently, and he was heavily criticised for his performance in Tuesday's 4-3 Champions League defeat to Schalke.Ā

Casillas had to battle for his first-team place with Diego Lopez last season but has been the undisputed goalkeeper since Lopez left for AC Milan.

Now, former Real keeper Jerzy Dudek has come up with an interesting theory as to why Casillas' form has been a bit up and down—the fact that the 33-year-old became a father last year.Ā

The former Liverpool stopper made the point while still insisting that the Spaniard is the world's best keeper.Ā

He told PolishĀ web portal Interia, as per Football Espana:

"

He’s the undisputed No 1 [in the world]. I don’t think there’s any goalkeeper in Europe who can compare to him.

[Being dropped in favour of Diego Lopez] was difficult for Casillas, but he learned a lot from that experience.

Then he became a father and this greatly affects the concentration of a player. His attention was on his son and you realise that’s more important than any record winning streak, for example.
