Walter Thurmond to Eagles: Latest Contract Details and Reaction
The Philadelphia Eagles' active offseason has reportedly continued with the addition of cornerback Walter Thurmond. The team announced the deal on Wednesday:
Adam Schefter of ESPN first reported a deal was in place:
ESPN's Vaughn McClure confirmed there was an agreement and noted the Atlanta Falcons were also interested:
Tom Pelissero of USA Today reported it's a one-year, $3.25 million deal "that can hit $4M with play-time incentives. $2M to sign."
The Seattle Seahawks landed Thurmond in the fourth round of the 2010 draft, and he steadily developed into a solid depth corner. The Oregon product has registered 89 tackles, 15 passes defended and one interception in 36 career games.
The biggest question mark is whether or not he can stay healthy. Thurmond has appeared in six or fewer games three times over his first five years in the league. That includes the 2014 campaign, when a torn pectoral cut short his only season with the New York Giants.
Philadelphia entered the offseason looking for secondary upgrades. Byron Maxwell and Thurmond should help lead to improvement at corner in 2015.
