Will Russell Wilson Rush for More Than 40.5 Yards?
This season was Russell Wilson's best in several categories. He threw for over 3,400 yards for the first time and had just seven interceptions. But with his legs, Wilson really made strides, as he had 849 rushing yards and six touchdowns, both career highs for the third-year quarterback.
He's been slowed down a bit in the playoffs, but Wilson can still create plays with his speed. NFL fans saw what Wilson was capable of in the second half against the Green Bay Packers when he rushed for a score late in the game.
Scott Kacsmar of Football Outsiders points out how productive Wilson can truly be when he scrambles:
Wilson likely won't end up going off for over 100 yards rushing against the Pats, but 41 yards seems like a reasonable pick. Especially when considering the secondary he's taking on. Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner will limit the passing game, forcing Wilson to find other ways to get the offense going.
If Lynch can wear down New England's front seven, Wilson will find more open lanes. Even against the likes of Vince Wilfork and Jamie Collins, Wilson has the elusiveness to get up the field with his legs.
His ability to find the open field makes this bet worth taking, as Brad Evans of Yahoo points out:
Those who look at the statistics will notice he hasn't rushed for over 40 yards in the playoffs since 2012. He was also forced into situations in that postseason that he will face against a tough Patriots defense. Given his capability as a rusher, expect his final number to be much higher than 41.5, so take the over.
