Seth Rollins Is the Best Thing Going Today for the WWE

Sebastian MaldonadoJan 28, 2015

Wrestlers come and go, but the best of the best truly become memorable legends.

The 2015 Royal Rumble event was history-making for one special WWE Superstar. This man managed to captivate the crowd in a match that will go down in history. He stood up to big names and won over the fans in his efforts.

This man goes by the name of Seth Rollins. Sorry, did you think I meant Roman Reigns?

The Authority inserted Rollins into the WWE world heavyweight title bout between Brock Lesnar and John Cena, making it a Triple Threat match. Rollins could have become the odd man out since Lesnar and Cena had their rivalry throughout the last half of 2014.

Sunday’s match proved that Rollins belonged with them all along.

Rollins, Mr. Money in the Bank, showed a new intensity that many WWE fans have never seen before. He took punishment from Lesnar while delivering plenty of his own.

Rollins jumped from the turnbuckle to deliver an elbow drop on Lesnar through the Spanish announce table. Lesnar was out, leaving Rollins and Cena all by themselves.

The two entered a great exchange, with both men kicking out of each other’s finishers. Rollins went for a corkscrew 450-splash and hit it. Unfortunately, Lesnar returned to squash Rollins’ momentum.

Rollins wouldn’t surrender to Lesnar without a fight. He used his Money in the Bank briefcase twice on Lesnar. He was about to hit the curb stomp on Lesnar on the briefcase, but Lesnar stopped him and hit Rollins with the F-5.

Rollins was pinned, and Lesnar retained in a fantastic Triple Threat match. But then, something special happened. The Philadelphia crowd clapped for Rollins in appreciation, and deservedly so.

Seth Rollins left it all on the line. And he proved he’s the best thing going today for the WWE.

In fact, he’s been proving it for quite a while.

Rollins was inserted into the Lesnar/Cena feud at Night of Champions. He hit the curb stomp on Lesnar and almost cashed in his shot. Cena made the save, but the damage was done.

Rollins needed to insert himself into the spotlight and win over the crowd with his promo work. Keep in mind he needed to do so against Paul Heyman, Lesnar’s advocate. As you well know, Heyman knows how to sell a match with his own promo work.

In other words, it’s a tough task to match wits with today’s greatest WWE manager.

It wasn’t until the SmackDown on January 15 that we truly saw Rollins worthy of the task. He threatened to curb stomp Heyman due to Lesnar not being in the arena at that time. Heyman managed to weasel his way out unscathed.

Despite the threat, Rollins impressed Heyman. He knew what it meant for Rollins to show up and prove that he belongs in the same ring as the WWE headliners. In fact, Heyman called Seth Rollins “the single best in-ring performer in the world today” in an interview with Kenny Herzog of Rolling Stone.

Frankly, that’s the highest praise for any wrestler to receive.

Seth Rollins is the top heel who cemented himself in that role for the past month. Expect Rollins to make a run as the top dog in 2015, and don’t be surprised when he succeeds.
