Pro Bowl 2015: Day 1 Fantasy Draft Results for Team Carter vs. Team Irvin

Tyler ConwayJan 20, 2015

After a flux of dropouts and replacements, we finally know the player pool for the 2015 Pro Bowl. Earlier Tuesday, the four captains for Team Irvin and Team Carter were decided. And, finally on Tuesday night, Hall of Fame wide receivers Cris Carter and Michael Irvin got to work on fantasy drafting their two rosters.

Interior linemen and special teamers were the name of the game in Day 1 of the fantasy draft, with NFL.com releasing the full results. A live, pick-by-pick draft will air for the remaining spots Wednesday night—largely consisting of the players who move the needle on a national level.

Team Irvin took a particular liking to young defensive linemen, as first-year star Aaron Donald and second-year mauler Sheldon Richardson joined stalwart Geno Atkins at the defensive tackle spots. Irvin also continued showing his affinity for his beloved Dallas Cowboys, drafting guard Zack Martin and center Travis Frederick to block for teammate DeMarco Murray.

Murray and Cleveland Browns cornerback Joe Haden were selected as Irvin's captains earlier Tuesday. Carter went with MVP candidate J.J. Watt and the NFL's leading receiver, Antonio Brown, to head up his squad that so far has a lean toward the Northeast.

The Troy, Ohio, native selected two Buffalo Bills (defensive tackles Kyle Williams and Marcell Dareus), three Philadelphia Eagles (guard Evan Mathis, center Jason Kelce and kicker Cody Parkey) and center Maurkice Pouncey to team up with Brown. He also drafted two Green Bay Packers in guard Josh Sitton and fullback John Kuhn.

"There's no two more competitive people than Michael and myself," Carter said Tuesday, per Kyle Zimmerman of Fox Sports Arizona. "We always want to put on a good show. There is a strategy into it, but it's about the end product."

Perhaps the biggest takeaway is the similarities in which Carter and Irvin are drafting their teams. Both seem to have an affinity toward keeping teammates together. Outside of special teamers like Adam Vinatieri and Pat McAfee, very few players who made the Pro Bowl as a unit were left without someone they have chemistry with.

It'll be interesting to see whether that draft strategy carries over to Wednesday. While all deserving, it's easier to pass on a better interior offensive lineman in favor of a teammate than it is, say, keeping Bengals-esque chemistry together by selecting Andy Dalton to pair with A.J. Green. It'll also be a bit harder for Irvin to keep his Dallas connection together with Tony Romo and Dez Bryant being among the hottest commodities in the player pool.

Either way, we'll have to wait another day to see how the rest of this plays out. Day 2 of the 2015 Pro Bowl draft airs at 8 p.m. ET on NFL Network.
