Jamie Carragher Blasts 'Nonsense' Arsenal Selfie After Win over Manchester City
Jamie Carragher says it is an “absolute joke” that players are posting celebratory pictures on social media after winning matches.
Arsenal beat Manchester City 2-0 on Sunday thanks to goals from Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud.
After the game, Aaron Ramsey posted an image on his Instagram and Twitter feed of him celebrating in the dressing room with team-mates Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Giroud and Per Mertesacker.

It was soon followed by Alexis Sanchez using his Twitter account to post a picture of himself with Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mesut Ozil and Mathieu Flamini.
But former Liverpool defender Carragher is unhappy with how players seem to be celebrating a regulation win in a Premier League game.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, per Thomas Jacobs of the Daily Mail, Carragher called the celebratory images being posted by players “nonsense.”
“It’s winding me up—it’s an absolute joke,” said Carragher. “It was one giant going to another giant. Of course celebrate, but it’s nonsense all of these team pics in dressing rooms. Normally, you have them with a cup! It’s nonsense, and they need to stop doing it.”
In response to the selfie craze, Carragher then posted his own image on his Twitter account at the end of the Monday Night Football programme.
Selfies have become increasingly prevalent in football. Earlier this month, Francesco Totti took his own selfie after scoring for Roma against Lazio, as reported by the Press Association, via The Guardian. Totti’s selfie came after he had scored the equaliser as Roma came from two goals down to draw 2-2 in the derby.
But a clampdown on selfie sticks being taken into football grounds has also begun. Premier League teams Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have all banned them recently, per the BBC.
A fan with a selfie stick was turned away from Arsenal’s home game with Hull City on Jan. 11, per the Daily Mirror, and Richard Innes of the Daily Mirror is not a fan of the selfie stick.

"For those of you who don’t know what they are, selfie sticks essentially represent the end of humanity. They’re the contraption which (apparently) allow you to take a GREAT selfie with your phone. Why anyone would want to do that anywhere-let alone at the football-is beyond us.
"
You can certainly understand why selfie sticks are annoying at football grounds. They can obstruct your view and leave you questioning whether the person is a genuine football fan.
But pictures of players after the game, like the one Ramsey posted, seem pretty harmless and not worth getting wound up over. It didn't seem like they were having a wild celebration at beating City. It just shows that the players are happy to have won and are together as a team.
