A new free-to-play game for mobile devices called WWE Immortals will be released in 2015, WWE announced Thursday.
Created by the WWE and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, WWE Immortals will be available for iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch and Android devices.
The game is being developed by NetherRealm Studios, the group behind the successful fighting franchises Mortal Kombat and Injustice: Gods Among Us, and Phosphor Game Studios. It will feature Superstar battles in an alternate or "fantastically re-imagined WWE world."
Back in November, the WWE announced its new partnership with WBIE. The agreement was originally tied to distribution of new and archived content. The partnership also spawned two animated series based on Scooby Doo and The Flintstones.
WWE Immortals will mark the duo's first foray into the gaming world. Greg Miller of IGN hopes this project leads to another mega gaming compilation from the two entertainment giants:
One step closer to LEGO WWE. RT @WWE: @WWE: WWE and Warner Bros. Interactive are teaming up for #WWEImmortals, available on iOS.

Senior vice president of mobile, social and emerging platforms from WBIE Greg Ballard commented on the new business venture, per WWE's announcement.
"It’s amazing to be working with WWE to offer a new way for fans to experience the brand on mobile platforms," Ballard said. "NetherRealm Studios are experts in creating award-winning games and the team is working hard to deliver the same quality of engaging gameplay with WWE Immortals."
Executive vice president of consumer products at WWE Casey Collins also provided a statement:
We are excited to partner with WBIE and NetherRealm Studios to create WWE Immortals and bring a new action-packed mobile experience to our passionate fan base. By tapping into NetherRealm’s legendary game development studio along with the unparalleled reach of WBIE, we are creating a new way for fans to engage with the larger-than-life WWE characters.
Further details on the game will be announced in 2015. If Mortal Kombat and Injustice serve as any indication about the style of fighting game in store for fans, the action is likely to be over-the-top and imaginative.
If the concept of MK-style fatalities is converted and repackaged to fit WWE Superstars' finishing maneuvers, we might have a compelling concept our hands.
