Dee Gordon to Marlins: Latest Trade Details, Comments and Reaction

Adam WellsDec 10, 2014

Andrew Friedman is settling into his new job as president of baseball operations for the Los Angeles Dodgers. The defending National League West champions have made a trade sending Dee Gordon to the Miami Marlins.

The Dodgers made this deal official, along with the deal for Howie Kendrick, via Twitter:

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports first reported the deal was happening:

Gordon released his statement on the deal:

Heyman had more on Gordon:

An unnamed executive had a glowing review for the Dodgers, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports:

Gordon is 26 years old and coming off his best season with the Dodgers. He led all of baseball with 64 stolen bases and 12 triples while posting a .289/.326/.378 slash line.

The versatile infielder made his first All-Star team in 2014. However, the Marlins are buying high thanks mostly to Gordon's big-time speed and a fluky first half with the bat.

Before the break, he hit .292/.344/.398 with 25 extra-base hits and .284/.300/.348 after, per Baseball-Reference.com. That second line is much closer to his .272/.314/.345 career line.

Haren is also going to the Marlins, though it remains to be seen if he will end up pitching a game in Miami. According to a separate tweet from Heyman, Haren's desire seems to be pitching for one of two California teams:

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal had Haren's thoughts:

Per Nightengale, the Dodgers have saved a lot of money in this trade and could be poised to do something else:

The Marlins got a player they felt they needed to compete in 2015, while the Dodgers get a top-tier prospect who can slot into their rotation at some point next season.
