Cardinals Reportedly Interested in Price
Wednesday, Jan. 7
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi have the latest on Price:
"The St. Louis Cardinals say they like their starting rotation. But that is not preventing them from pursuing a major upgrade.
The team is exploring trades for left-handers Cole Hamels and David Price and the possibility of signing free-agent right-hander Max Scherzer, according to major-league sources.
No deal appears close on any front, and it’s possible that the Cardinals will simply decide that the acquisition cost in each case is too high.

Multiple Teams Interested in Price
Thursday, Dec. 4
The Detroit Tigers acquired David Price at the trade deadline but the ace wasn't enough to help them reach their ultimate goal of a World Series. Now the front office may be looking to move the left-hander with free agency looming after next season.
Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports the longtime member of the Tampa Bay Rays, along with staff mate Rick Porcello, are both drawing plenty of interest from around the league:
He goes on to note it's unclear what type of return Detroit could ask for with Price slated to receive nearly $19 million in arbitration followed by hitting free agency next winter:
Jon Morosi of the MLB Network previously noted the Miami Marlins had contacted the Tigers about the availability of both starters:
Price made 11 starts for Detroit after the deadline-day move. He posted a 3.59 ERA with 82 strikeouts in 77.2 innings. After some growing pains during his rookie campaign, he's been one of the best pitchers in baseball with a 3.21 ERA and 1.14 WHIP for his career.
The question for other teams is whether they would be willing to trade valuable assets for either a one-year rental or a player who will command a massive contract extension. It don't sound like any moves are imminent, but the basic interest doesn't come as a surprise.
