Wells Has Cast Removed

Tuesday, Dec. 9

Daniel Martin of CSN Baltimore provides an update on Wells' recovery from head coach Mark Turgeon:

"

Maryland senior Dez Wells had the cast removed from his surgically repaired right wrist on Monday and is now in a hard splint, head coach Mark Turgeon said on Tuesday, as the guard continues his recovery after breaking a bone in the area on Nov. 26 against Iowa State.

According to Turgeon, Wells met with his surgeon this week and the team continues to stick to the four-week timeline that was initially announced at the time of his surgery on Nov. 28. As of now, that would seem to make Wells in the conversation to be available for the team’s Big Ten opener against Michigan State on Dec. 30 if all progresses according to plan.

Wells Suffers Broken Wrist

Saturday, Nov. 29

The 5-0 Maryland Terrapins are off to a hot start this season, but keeping it up will be challenging without the services of star guard Dez Wells.

According to Roman Stubbs of The Washington Post, the senior swingman will miss one month of action after fracturing his wrist:

As pointed out by ESPN's Jeff Goodman, this is yet another stroke of bad luck for the Terps:

They are already without senior forward Evan Smotrycz, who suffered a fractured foot in October.

Wells is the team's leading scorer at over 16 points per game, so the likes of Melo Trimble and Jake Layman will have to step up as primary options for head coach Mark Turgeon's team while he is on the mend.

Things are most definitely looking up for Maryland basketball when the roster is fully healthy, but this new obstacle will say a lot about the Terrapins' toughness and determination in the coming weeks.
