Justin Blackmon Pleads No Contest to Misdemeanor Marijuana Possession
Troubled Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Justin Blackmon, who is currently serving an indefinite suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, was in court Thursday to plead no contest to misdemeanor marijuana possession charges stemming from a July arrest.
According to Kyle Fredrickson of The Oklahoman, Blackmon's charges could be downgraded if he doesn't have any incidents through May 2015:
"If Blackmon does not commit any crimes in the next six months, the charge will be dropped to a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct, Judge Diane Slayton ruled.
Blackmon was joined by his attorney, Robert Gray, and told Slayton he recently completed a voluntary drug rehabilitation program. Blackmon left the courtroom quickly following the ruling and was unable to be located for comment.
"
Gray provided a statement regarding Blackmon.
"I don’t anticipate (Blackmon) will have any problems,” he said. “He’s going back to training and hopefully looks forward to reinstatement."
Since being drafted by the Jaguars with the fifth overall pick in 2012, Blackmon has had a number of off-field issues that have derailed his playing career.
He was suspended for the first four games of the 2013 season due to violating the league's substance abuse policy and was indefinitely suspended seven months later for the same violation.
The 24-year-old hasn't been released by the Jaguars despite his troubles. There is no word on when he might see the field again.
