Spygate, the Next Chapter: Roger Goodell Meets with Matt Walsh
When NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and former Patriots videographer Matt Walsh meet on Tuesday, the whole football world will be hoping that they finally get some answers to Spygate.
Ever since the allegations came out and the initial punishment was handed down, everyone assumed that this thing was dead, and Bill Belichick and the Patriots probably wish it was right about now. They were dealt a blow by losing a first-round pick, lucky for them they had another.
Goodell will nowĀ meet with Walsh, and will really have a chance toĀ get to the bottom of what was done inside the Patriots' organization. He can find out how widespread the cheating was, and if Belichick was telling him the truth the first time around.

The key is that Goodell nowĀ has a chance to talk to someone outside of the Patriots' organization that was directly involved in Spygate. Hopefully, Goodell will ask the tough questions, and finally shed some light on this whole thing.
Belichick tried toĀ deflect the original incident by saying he didn't know it was illegal. Well, now Walsh can either back that story up, or blow it right out of the water. Goodell needs to directly ask Walsh what he was told when making these tapes. How secret was he supposed to be when making these tapes?
Because if Walsh was told to be real discreet and secretive about making these tapes, then that would obviously lead you to believe that Belichick knew what he was doing was wrong, and would contradict his original story to Goodell.
Then Goodell would have to face a real tough decision. He said back when itĀ originally happened that he didn't think it was widespread, andĀ Goodell didn't think it really gave the Patriots a big advantage. Well, that's easy to say when you are playing the Jets, but how about when you are the underdog in a playoff game on the road against the Steelers?
Goodell needs to decide whether he really wants to get to the bottom of this and find out what went on, or does he just want to talk to Walsh and sweep it under the rug. I'd bet on the latter, unfortunately. Just wait and watch the press conference after the meeting on Tuesday, and you will know the answer.
If a player was proved to have cheated against the rules to benefit himself and his team, what do you think Goodell would do to that player? Judging from Goodell's tenure so far, I'd say it wouldn't be pretty, just ask Pacman Jones.Ā Let's just hope Goodell holds Belichick to the same standard.
