Kansas City Chiefs Are Finding Ways to Win and Are in Great Position
There is no secret that Sunday’s 17-13 victory over the Buffalo Bills was an ugly win. But wins don’t come easy in the NFL, and teams will gladly take a win, ugly or pretty.
Throughout the game, Buffalo beat Kansas City’s offensive line, sacking Alex Smith six times. Marcell Dareus and Jerry Hughes both had a multi-sack game for the Bills.
Because of Buffalo’s dominant defensive line and the Chiefs pulling away with just three points, it was hard to think the Chiefs could pull out a comeback win down 13-3 going into the fourth quarter. But the Chiefs found a way to do it, and Andy Reid deserves a lot of the credit.

Reid pulled out all stops against the Bills in the fourth quarter with several gutsy play calls, including a 4th-and-1 play where the Chiefs executed a fake handoff and pitch to Jamaal Charles, resulting in a 39-yard touchdown run to start the comeback rally. Alex Smith capped off the rally with a touchdown run of his own, giving Kansas City the lead for the first time in the game.
Under Reid’s guidance, the defense managed to force field goals after allowing a touchdown on Buffalo’s first possession while the offense stuck together until the final whistle. The offensive line was having a bad game, allowing six sacks. But Reid had the offense play to its strength, which is running the ball.
The offensive line paved the way for Charles on Sunday and allowed him to find space, which helped the offense immensely. He started off the game with three carries for minus-eight yards, only to finish with 98 yards and a touchdown off 15 carries.
After starting 0-2, Reid got his team to regroup. Since the 0-2 start, the Chiefs have captured six wins in their last seven contests and are riding a four-game winning streak.
While winning the AFC West is still a possibility, realistically, Kansas City’s best chance at making the playoffs will come through the wild card. The good part is, the Chiefs have put themselves in a very comfortable position, making them favorites at this point to make the playoffs with the No. 5 seed in the AFC.
The Chiefs win the tiebreaker over the Buffalo Bills, San Diego Chargers and Miami Dolphins based on head-to-head meetings. The Chiefs have another crucial AFC match against the Pittsburgh Steelers later in the season, which will have big playoff implications with wild-card spots up for grabs.
Kansas City went from going 0-2 to finding themselves in a strong position in the middle of November to make the playoffs. As one of the hottest teams in the NFL right now, the Chiefs are making a serious push, and it is hard for teams to stop them.
