Brock Lesnar Will Not Be Conquered Until WrestleMania 31

Tom ClarkOct 31, 2014

Brock Lesnar is the current WWE world heavyweight champion.  The man known as The Beast Incarnate won the title back at SummerSlam on August 17, and since then no one has been able to even come close to dethroning him as the most dominant champion perhaps of all time.

Of course, Lesnar has had only one title defense since beating John Cena at SummerSlam, and he is now apparently heading back into a feud with Cena once again.  But even though Cena has his fans who would like to see Lesnar go down, The Beast will not be conquered until WrestleMania 31.

For many, it seems like he is meant to lose the title before then.  After all, a nonexistent champion is a weak champion to some, and right now Lesnar certainly fits that description.  But The Beast seems content to sit back on his contract, and WWE seems more than happy to pay him until he is needed.

However, that does not mean that fans have to be happy about it.

The company's allure is often its top championship.  From Hulk Hogan to Stone Cold to Cena, the top titleholder is the one fans want to see.  He is the one the company's major storylines are often built around, and he is the one who makes everything flow.

Lesnar with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Fans want to see the gold on the line, and they want to see that the championship is important.

The gold strap is significant; the company promotes it that way and historically always has.  WWE wants fans to care about the belt and who the champion is, and they usually respond in kind.  Title matches are met with both excitement and fervor among the fans who want to believe in the industry's top prize.

But when the champion himself goes well over a month without a title defense or even appearing on TV, then suddenly the belt means nothing.  And the crowd likely doesn't care about it anymore.

Of course, Lesnar is only doing what is expected of him and going along with the plan.  However, the fans are the ones who must believe in the talent for them to succeed, and many have almost certainly now lost faith in Paul Heyman's client.

So the sooner he loses the belt, the better.  After all, he's not there anyway.

It's a sentiment that is likely spreading throughout fan circles, and it's one that is apparently not going away any time soon.  The crowd is just sick of Lesnar not being in the picture, and all it wants is to see him go down.  But the problem is the timing is just not right.

John Cena

Cena is the new top contender for the title, and that means that we are in for his third match with Lesnar since August.  But if that match happens at the Royal Rumble on January 25, then there is no guarantee the title will change hands.  Cena may be the top star, which means the belt would come back on a full-time basis, but that does not mean it will happen at the Rumble.

That stage is simply not big enough.

Again, Lesnar has some heat on him right now from fans who are not happy with the fact that the WWE World Heavyweight Championship is being kept out of the company.  The animosity against him is building more and more with each passing week, and that can be used in WWE's favor when the time is right.

The Royal Rumble is not the right time; however, WrestleMania 31 is.

Despite how much some fans want to see Lesnar lose, that move must happen on the grandest stage of them all.  A loss in that environment will mean so much more for the man who beats him.  That man will have taken down the Beast, ending his seven-month title reign and grabbing the top spotlight in the process.

That Superstar would have the ultimate bragging rights, perhaps more than any other new champion in recent memory.  Lesnar is presented as unstoppable, a merciless killing machine of the highest order. He doesn't wrestle opponents—he mauls them.  Once he hits the ring, it's mayhem.  He runs through guys like a freight train, and once he gets started, there is no stopping him.

Roman Reigns with John Cena

Imagine the rub that his eventual conqueror will receive.  That conqueror could very well be Roman Reigns.

From his time with The Shield to his singles run after the group split, many fans have been eyeing Reigns as the next possible face of the company.  He has the size, strength and intensity to represent WWE for the next generation.  He has a very marketable look, and at just 29, he has many quality years ahead of him.

Barring any serious injuries or personal issues, Reigns could potentially have at least 10 more years with the company.  And those 10 years could be at the top, battling Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins or any other Superstars who want the top spot in WWE.

But if that is in the cards, then Reigns must begin with a bang.  He must have a statement win, one that will firmly establish him as a main event star and a top hand in the company.  And that win must come against Lesnar at WrestleMania 31.

By that time, The Beast will surely be more hated than he is now, and fans should be more than ready to see him go down in flames.  The man many feel is the most dominant force WWE has ever seen would have fallen at the hands of the industry's next great star, and all of that momentum will directly transfer over to him.

Lesnar will have essentially passed the torch, and Reigns will run with it.

The Beast Incarnate cannot last forever as WWE world heavyweight champion.  He will eventually fall, and when he does, it must be at the feet of a man who can do something with it, someone who can carry the company forward.  That someone is Reigns, and he should be the one to conquer Lesnar at WrestleMania 31.
