The Tennessee Titans will be without their most reliable receiving option after tight end Delanie Walker suffered a concussion during Week 10's matchup with Baltimore.
Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean provided further details about his status:
Walker later tweeted about his status following the diagnosis:
In a campaign where the quarterback position has been a revolving door for Tennessee and the receivers on the outside have lacked consistency, the tight end has picked up the slack.
Even more impressive, he's done it while battling a nagging shoulder injury. It's an ailment that first popped up after the Titans' Week 3 game with the Cincinnati Bengals.
John Glennon of The Tennessean passed along remarks from Walker, who said he would need to keep managing the pain moving forward:
Now the mounting injury concerns have brought his availability into question. While some time on the sidelines following the latest issue would likely go a long way in making sure his shoulder heals, it would be tough to overcome for the offense.
The onus would be on Kendall Wright and Justin Hunter to pick up the slack by getting open more regularly on the outside. As for filling the tight end void, it'd likely become a collective effort between Craig Stevens and Taylor Thompson.
None of those players have showcased the same connection with Zach Mettenberger and the rest of the quarterback group, though. Walker has quietly become a vital piece of the offense and any type of extended absence would further downgrade an already shaky outlook for the unit.
The situation should become more clear once further updates are provided on Walker. He's been pretty durable throughout his career, playing at least 14 games every since season 2007. But with the injuries mounting, it may be tough to keep that streak alive.
