103-Year-Old Liverpool Fan Sent 4,000 Birthday Cards After Online Campaign

Sean FayOct 7, 2014

When massive Liverpool fan Betty Musker was asked what she would like for her 104th birthday, she said, "Just a nice card, I love cards." But she told carers she didn't expect much because "most of my friends are dead."

However, a Liverpool fan never walks alone, and thanks to a massive Facebook campaign, she has already been sent 4,000 cards—despite her birthday not coming until October 24.

Betty left Liverpool 10 years ago to be closer to family, but she remains a proud Scouser, and Liverpool football club are her great passion.

As one of her carers, Lorraine Marshall, told the Liverpool Echo:

"

I can't bear football, but she’s Reds mad.

She watches every game, she even watched the whole World Cup. She's football crazy.

She's a lovely, lovely lady, and she loves her hometown of Liverpool.

Betty has made cards all her life, and when I asked her what she wanted for her birthday, she said "just a nice card, I love cards", and that's how the seed was planted.

She's completely with it, she knows everything that's going on. But she'll be very surprised when she gets all these cards on her birthday.

"

A Facebook group was set up to try to get cards to Betty, and according to the Echo, it already has over 16,000 shares.

Cards have arrived from places as far away as Singapore, and caretakers at Golborne House in Warrington, where Betty lives, say they are receiving 200 cards a day.
