Shaken Not Stirred, Frantz Joseph: Waived, or Set Free To Succeed.

Raiders feel good story MLB Frantz Joseph might not be over

The way waivers work. The teams with the worst records get 1st crack at a player on the waiver wire The Raiders have opened the contract to the other clubs to either pick up or "WAIVE". Waivers are no recall and no withdrawl. If a player passes through waivers and is not claimed they become a FA which is what Joseph started out as.

Caught in the Shuffle:

Currently the Raiders have 10 LB's on their current roster 11 if you count Jon Condo a very versatile All-Big 8 Conference selection as a running back, linebacker and punter...Nominated to play in the Big 33 All-Star Game...As a junior, first team all-conference selection as a running back, linebacker and punter after rushing for 1,008 yards and nine touchdowns while averaging 17 tackles per game. Point being the raiders are deep with Linebackers. Frantz was the odd man out. If I had my druthers Sam Williams who has proved to be ineffective would no longer be a Raider, leaving room for Joseph to either succeed or fail during preseason.

Why Frantz Joseph could be succesfull in the NFL

Consensus on Frantz Joseph is that he does not have Raiders Speed for the Mike Position. Taking into consideration the current starter for The Raiders, to the untrained eye this statement appears correct..

Kirk Morrison the Raiders current starting MLB pro day stats
40 Yrd Dash: 4.75 20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.28 3-Cone Drill: 7.12
Frantz Joseph pro day stats
40 Yrd Dash: 4.83 20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.37 3-Cone Drill: 7.34 20 Yrd Dash: 2.75

Frantz pro day shows him to be a step slower in all categories that really matter for a MLB. Cause for concern Frantz strength factor. To even be considered a MLB is expected to bench the 225lb weight at least 25 times. Frantz pro day he only put up 19.

This is a wake up call for Frantz.

Joseph stats show an athlete that is a TESTER. Simply put, He shows up HUGE on game day. Despite playing in just 37 games at Florida Atlantic, he eclipsed the school career record with 346 total tackles. He holds the top two spots on the school's single-season record tackle list with 131 in 2007 and 154 in 2008. 2008 totals ranked second in the nation, the same with his school single-season record 81 solo tackles.

Honors include

Named to the 2008 Lombardi Award Preliminary Watch List
• Butkus Watch List Member
• Holds the Single-Season FAU Record for Tackles
• Selected Phil Steele's Mid-Season All-Sun Belt Second Team
• Sun Belt Total Tackles Leader
• Sun Belt Conference First-Team Member

New Orleans Bowl: Recorded 10 tackles, including six solo and two tackles for a loss of five yards.

2008: Joseph managed double digit tackles in all but one game and that was a game he was pulled to allow younger players to get experience. He finished the season ranked No. 2 nationally in tackles per game and was named First Team All-Sun Belt and was the Defensive MVP of the Motor City Bowl as well as the Texas versus the Nation All-Star game.

The Intangibles

Assuming that Joseph's Lack of40yrd speed and football intelligence could be a mistake that hopefully won't return to haunt the Raiders. Football instincts knowing how to sniff out a play can make up for flat out 40 speed. Having the instinct to be at the right place at the right time means more than how fast you cover 40yrds without pads in a controlled environment. Fabian Washington He ran a 4.29 in the 40, DeAngelo Hall ran a 4.15 second 40 yard dash indoors and a 4.37 outdoors while in school at Virginia Tech. Both had abysmal showings during their tenure with the Raiders. Fast? Yes, out of place? Constantly.

Frantz Joseph also has unmatched character. Outside of his freakish tackling numbers, what embedded Joseph in the heart of Raider fans was the fact this young man passed up a free ride Boston College a perennial ACC program to be closer to his ailing mother. Had Joseph put up similar number there. There is no doubt he would have been a 1st day draft pick.

I said earlier I hope this move doesn't come back to haunt The Raiders, having said that I just stumbled across information that Frantz Joseph is already on the radar of the Atlanta Falcon's as well as AFC rival the Miami Dolphins

If Frantz Joseph is a Free Agent the start of the 2009 Season. I'll be truly surprised. Oh yeah and I'll have a Frantz Joseph jersey as long as it's not another AFC-West Team.
