Jets' Ill-Timed Timeout Costs Them Game-Tying Touchdown Against Packers
It looked like the New York Jets had come up with a game-tying touchdown late in the fourth quarter against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. Unfortunately for them, New York offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg had—incorrectly—been granted a timeout by an official.
Down 31-24 and facing a 4th-and-4 from the Green Bay 36-yard line with about five minutes left in the game, Jets quarterback Geno Smith hooked up with receiver Jeremy Kerley for what appeared to be the tying score.

Watch Mornhinweg before the snap:

Jets head coach Rex Ryan tried to tell the referees he was not the one who called for a timeout.

Update: Sept. 14 at 8:08 p.m. ET
Ryan confirmed after the game that he was not the one who had called timeout, per ESPN NFL Nation's Rich Cimini:

Even the Packers had a hard time believing what happened.
Although Mornhinweg had apparently called for a timeout, the referees should not have granted it.
It turned out to be a costly mistake. Although the Jets picked up the first down on the next play, they eventually turned the ball over on downs. Green Bay was able to run out the clock and hold on for a 31-24 victory.
