Can’t-Miss Additions to WWE 2K15
There are few times each year when wrestling fans and gamers can come to an agreement on anything, but the release of the latest next-generation edition of the game will have everyone excited about the possibilities.
While the upgrades to the graphics for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will be the most notable change immediately, there are also other additions that fans will take note of and make the game memorable.
The biggest change is the appearance of Sting in a WWE game. I never thought I’d say that.
Sting is a wrestling legend who spent his entire career outside the WWE. Whether it was NWA, WCW or even TNA, Sting became the face of the wrestling alternative in the United States and was a big part of the competition against WWE for years.
While wrestling fans have yet to see Sting make his in-ring debut with Vince McMahon’s company (something most members of the WWE Universe can’t wait to experience), everyone who pre-orders WWE 2K15 will be able to play as the retro Sting character and the classic black-and-white Sting character.
Gamers will also be able to play as "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan. The ability to recreate the memorable main event between Sting and Hogan at Starrcade 1997 (sans the fast count and Bret Hart restarting the match), and do it the right way, allows the hardcore fans to relive history the way it should have been booked.
Another unique addition to the game is the 2K Showcase mode.
Just as the company incorporated the 30 Years of WrestleMania mode into last year’s game, 2K Showcase mode allows gamers and wrestling fans to relive two of the most exciting feuds in WWE history. Whether you choose to play through the battle between John Cena and CM Punk or the blood rivalry involving Shawn Michaels and Triple H, fans will be able to experience the moments that made the matches so special.
It will be interesting to see how 2K Sports lays out the showcase mode, but fans are most excited about the addition of MyCareer. Using NBA 2K14’s career mode as a model, per IGN.com's Vince Ingenito, the developers will allow gamers to play as a character and follow along as he advances within the company.
There aren’t many details about the mode revealed yet, but a career mode is exactly what many gamers have been clamoring for from a wrestling game. Unfortunately for some fans, this feature won’t be available on Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3.
Regardless of which new feature has gamers most excited, WWE 2K15 looks to be a must-own game for hardcore and casual wrestling fans alike.
