Tennessee Titans' QB Vince Young Back In The News As Workouts Begin
Being a University of Texas fan, and now living in Austin, I have always been a huge Vince Young fan. He may be the single best athlete that I have ever seen play college football. Add his name to only two words and it brings back nightmares to USC fans.
Vince Young, Rose Bowl.
That game was absolutely magic. It also showed to me why he would be an asset to any team in the NFL. He has an unquenchable will to win. Even if that means he has to take the whole team on his shoulders and carry them to the end, he showed he can do that.

Colts Release CB After Trade Request

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
His struggles last year are well documented, and in some ways are understandable. As of now Kerry Collins has been given the starting job, which he earned last season, but Vince has every reason to want his job back, and someone should give it to him.
In an interview yesterday he all but said he wanted to be traded if he didn't get his job back.
Normally, I hate it when players come out and say that they want to be traded, which he didn't exactly do, but I think he went about it the right way.
He said I am working hard, battling for the starting job, and I am ready to show that I am number one. Ultimately, it is the coach's decision and that's fine, but if I am not the man I want a chance to move on so I can play because I am ready to.
He didn't whine and cry like Jay Cutler did because he felt he had been disrespected. All he said was, I am a winner, I am a leader, and I want to be in a position to do both.
Now, if this escalates and becomes a soap opera like the Cutler situation, then I will feel differently, but at this point I think it has been handled well.
Based on how the Titans have acted they have pretty much given up on Vince, and that is fine, but they should give him a chance to go elsewhere and use his talents. Forcing him to hang around for when, not if, Kerry Collins gets hurt or becomes ineffective is not fair to Vince.
So where could Vince go?
Miami was my first thought with their implementation of the wildcat offense, but I just don't think Parcells and Vince would mesh very well.
Minnesota may be a decent fit if Favre just moves on with his life, finally. Having Adrian Peterson in the backfield would take a lot of the stress off of Vince. Much the same as his rookie year when he had a quality running game to support him.
My personal choice, as a 49ers fan, would be for him to go to San Francisco. They have a quality running game, and they need to change their style of play to be successful.
Before anyone says that Alex Smith was a running quarterback in college too, don't even think for a second that he is on the same level athletically as Vince Young.
Vince can run, and while he is no John Elway, he can make throws when he needs to. The nature of the pro game is making a shift though, as college quarterbacks are more and more proficient in the spread offense.
This plays into Vince's hands.
This is a chance for a team that has been struggling to make the move early and take advantage of a quarterback that has shown he can play. It is also a great opportunity to take advantage of Vince wanting to prove himself, which brings me back to where I started.
Vince Young's greatest asset may be his unquenchable will to win. Anyone who watched that Rose Bowl game knows the game is never over with Vince in there. Add that to him wanting to prove himself and he may be poised for a career defining season.
The season is still months away, and my guess is that he will still be a Titan when the season starts.
