Arsenal vs. Napoli: Live Player Ratings, Analysis for the Gunners

Will TideyJun 8, 2018

Two of Europe's in-form teams meet on Tuesday night, as Premier League leaders Arsenal host high-flying Napoli at the Emirates.

The hotly-anticipated Champions League Group F clash will see Rafa Benitez return to England, bringing with him a Napoli side who have won five of their opening six Serie A matches and will represent stiff opposition for Arsene Wenger's Gunners.

Arsenal won their opening game of the group stage 2-1 at Marseille, while Napoli achieved the same result at home against last year's finalists Borussia Dortmund.

Napoli will come armed with Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain, who was a summer transfer target for Arsenal but eventually chose a move to Naples.

Score (FT)

Arsenal 2 (Ozil, Giroud)

Napoli 0

1st half analysis

Wojciech Szczesny–Not much to do for Arsenal's goalkeeper thus far.

Bacary Sagna—Effective on the right flank, defensively tight.

Per Mertesacker—Dealt well with Napoli's blunt threat so far.

Laurent Koscielny—as per Per, done nothing wrong so far.

Kieran Gibbs—Neat first half.

Mikel Arteta—Ticking Arsenal's midfield over with his passing.

Aaron Ramsey—Is there a midfielder in Europe playing better than Ramsey right now?

Mathieu Flamini—The second coming of Flamini continues to go well for the Gunners.

Tomas Rosicky—Back in the team and doing a good job.

Mesut Ozil—Wonderful finish for Arsenal's first, lovely assist for their second.

Olivier Giroud—Striker's instinct brought his goal, which he finished cooly.

2nd half analysis

Wojciech Szczesny–It says everything about Arsenal's night that he was virtually a bystander.

Bacary Sagna—More neat play from the fullback.

Per Mertesacker—Very smooth operation from Arsenal's central pairing.

Laurent Koscielny—Ditto the above.

Kieran Gibbs—Neat first half.

Mikel Arteta—Ticking Arsenal's midfield over with his passing.

Aaron Ramsey—Shook off a slight sprain to put in another impressive shift.

Mathieu Flamini—Unspectacular, picked up a yellow card.

Tomas Rosicky—Was substituted towards the end. A positive comeback.

Mesut Ozil—Some more lovely touches.

Olivier Giroud—Had a chance to score Arsenal's third. Is looking sharp.
