Ten Solutions to the WWE/Denver Nuggets Pepsi Center Fiasco
Memorial Day is quickly turning into a very interesting day in Denver sports because of a very weird decision by Nuggets management.
The NBA has a set schedule for the Finals, and that falls back to the conference finals also, since ESPN and ABC has one series and TNT has the other. The Pepsi Center is double-booked for next Monday, with Game Four of the Western Conference Finals and Monday Night Raw both scheduled to be there.
Somehow, the WWE got booked for when Game Four was scheduled with the guess that the No. 2 seed Nuggets wouldn't hold seed, and the issue only came to light after the Lakers advanced.
Why the Nuggets wouldn't have tried to solve this weeks ago, especially since most everyone expected the Lakers to advance, meaning a Game Four would most likely be in Denver, is a mystery.
However, I, as a level head, can provide some solutions to try to meet both the Nuggets' wishes and the WWE's demands.
10. The WWE moves Monday Night Raw to the Coors Event Center in Boulder
The arena seats 11,000, so after the Raw setup it will hold probably a few thousand less.
It's not ideal since the WWE has already sold 10,000 tickets, so the Nuggets would have to make up the difference, which they will probably have to do in most of these scenarios.
9. The WWE moves Raw to Dick's Sporting Goods Park
Plenty of seating here, although the major problem will be setting up an outdoor show with less than a week's notice.
It would be a fun show in a soccer stadium.
8. The Nuggets play Game Four in Denver Coliseum
It still exists, and it would be a cool retro back to the ABA-type game and definitely the hottest ticket in town.
Sure, only 10,000 would be able to go, but it would probably add a nice home court intimate feel for the Nuggets.
7. The Nuggets play Game Four at Coors Field
This is going in the opposite direction from No. 8, and logistics of this are way more difficult than Raw at a soccer stadium, but it could be a fun option...especially considering that the Dodgers and Rockies play a 1 PM game and that the outfield may consist of a hardwood court.
This option is probably unlikely, but it would be entertaining.
6. The WWE moves Raw to Casa Bonita
This would be a very small venue for the show and would lose a lot of revenue, but would make for some fun matches.
A wrestler could cliff dive.
A no holds barred match in Black Bart's Cave.
I would watch that over the basketball game.
5. The WWE moves Raw to the Staples Center
This would be tough since they have a crew that travels and have an event the next night in Colorado Springs. Denver is really tough for this to happen in since they don't have a second viable arena like a Phoenix, Miami, or Minneapolis has—and it's not really near a lot of other cities.
With the crew, this option is almost impossible, although...
4. The Nuggets play Game Four at the Staples Center
The NBA might view this as a nightmare with the Lakers having Games One, Two, and Four at home. This would work with the venues, though, and might even provide the Nuggets an opportunity.
If they win their home game and win one of the three road games, they would have Games Five and Six at home to win the series. It's most likely a disadvantage for the Nuggets, but they can thank their dumb management for scenarios like this.
3. The WWE run a 10 AM show and the Nuggets play that night
Not sure how hot a morning wrestling crowd would be, and not sure the crew could set up the show in time from another show in another city the previous night.
However, with both the WWE and Nuggets crews disassembling, I could guess that the basketball court could be set up in time for the game. They do it all of the time with hockey on the same day as basketball and about three hours in between.
It is Memorial Day, so most people would have off to attend the show.
2. Raw goes to Boulder or another local venue, the seats are first come first serve at the arena, and the scoreboard only shows Raw
The Nuggets get to play Game Four, and the seating becomes like a battle royal where both sets of tickets are accepted.
Show up with a Raw ticket first, the person with the Nuggets tickets is SOL. The referees will not be swayed by the crowd when they make a controversial call, and the fans have to watch a Santino Marella replay.
It's a horrible solution, but it would make news.
1. Monday Night Raw—Live from Red Rocks
If the stage is big enough, this is where Raw should be at next Monday Night. The scenery would be fantastic, and even if the wrestling and interviews weren't great, fans would remember the view and look at Red Rocks for years to come.
