Gareth Bale belongs to Real Madrid!

Mr. Chairman, Daniel Levy, sir: just who do you think you are?

You, sir, are the Chairman of Tottenham Hotspur F.C. Did you know that?

Did you know that you are not the Chairman of Manchester United or City, nor of Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid or Barcelona?

You, sir, are a small club Chairman. Tottenham Hotspur are a small club. And when small clubs—who play in small European tournaments—get slaughtered by small French clubs in front of small crowds and have great players, they are happy to give those great players to great clubs.

Why?

Well, sir, it is because great players belong at great clubs. There are seven great clubs of Europe, Mr. Levy, and you are Chairman of none of them.

So when Mr. Florentino Perez of the great Real Madrid—perhaps the greatest of the great clubscomes calling for your talisman winger, your response should not be "£100 million please," it should be "where do I sign? Here, take him!"

You do not deserve Gareth Bale, Mr. Levy. Tottenham do not deserve him, their supporters do not deserve him. Rooting for a player of Gareth Bale's immense talents is something one earns, and it is only earned by being a supporter of one of the great clubs.

You are messing with the natural order of things, Mr. Levy, sir.

I call on you, respectfully, to knock it off. Small clubs, who cannot even qualify for Champions League football, sell their great players to great clubs, and that is the end of it.

Did you know, Mr. Levy, that Gareth Bale recently told The Sun that he has dreamt, from when he was a little boy, of some day playing for the great club, Real Madrid? Yes, that club specifically. Was he raised in Madrid? No, the young man is Welsh of course, and there is no known connection between him and the Spanish capital, but that is neither here nor there.

The fact is, that all little boys in Britain grow up dreaming of playing football for Real Madrid. All of them. So, whenever a young man has become a great player, and that young man is from Great Britain, Chairmen like yourself owe it to those young men to set them free, to play for the great club.

Unless PSG come with more cash. You are allowed to ship them there, then.

But what you cannot do is keep such a player. Not at a small club like yours, Mr. Levy. It simply is not done. Small clubs do not become great clubs, unless they are purchased by international oil interests.

Sell Gareth Bale to Real Madrid, Mr. Levy. You and your small little club do not deserve him. He deserves to play on a great stage, in a great city, for a Great Club.

After all, just who do you think you are?
