5 WWE Superstars Who Deserved a Spot in a Money in the Bank Match
At Money in the Bank, two sets of seven WWE Superstars will compete for an opportunity at the fast track to world championship. However, those Superstars are just a small fraction of the WWE roster.
There are Superstars on the roster whom no one would expect to see in a Money in the Bank match and don’t deserve the opportunity either. Heath Slater, JTG and Tons of Funk don’t belong in a Money in the Bank match.
But what about Chris Jericho? Why is he facing Ryback at the pay-per-view rather than participating in the match he created? What about Big E Langston? He’s a midcard heel who has shown potential like the others in the World Heavyweight title Money in the Bank match.
Here are five Superstars, including Jericho and Langston, who deserved a spot in one of the Money in the Bank matches this year.
Curtis Axel is on the path to success after Paul Heyman decided to take him under his wing. He was able to capture the Intercontinental title away from Wade Barrett at WWE Payback in a Triple Threat match involving The Miz.
Chances are Axel will face Miz at Money in the Bank, but he could have easily been one of the participants in the World Heavyweight title Money in the Bank match.
That match features all heels and the other midcard champion, United States champion Dean Ambrose. Perhaps it has to do with WWE choosing to put Axel in a singles match in order to give him another win.
It wouldn’t be wise to put Axel in a position to lose this soon into his push anyway. Then again, if you’re going to push someone, go for the gold. Pun intended.
Speaking of the Miz, the former WWE champion and Money in the Bank winner will not be taking part in the festivities this year. The Miz had returned last year just in time to take part in the WWE title Money in the Bank match. However, since then, the Miz’s career has been demoted to talk show segments, Main Event commentary and the occasional midcard match.
The Miz would fit perfectly as the eighth competitor in this year’s Money in the Bank all-stars match. Like the others, he is a former world champion.
Is Sheamus really at a higher level than the Miz right now?
WWE would like to think so, but Sheamus took Miz’s place as Mr. Pre-Show last month.
Big E Langston
While Dolph Ziggler was out of action due to a concussion, Big E Langston was in the ring every Raw and SmackDown doing the dirty work. Since Ziggler has returned, though, Langston has been doing very little. He is helping AJ in her efforts to humiliate former Divas champion Kaitlyn, but he deserves more.
He is a heel, so he would fit with the Money in the Bank all-heels match for an opportunity at the World Heavyweight championship. He is part of the new generation of Superstars like Dean Ambrose and Antonio Cesaro who made the jump from NXT to the main roster.
Why hasn’t Langston been pushed as much as Ambrose and Cesaro?
Ryback already has a match set for Money in the Bank, but it’s unfortunate how low he has gone in such a short time. He is essentially going from No. 1 contender for the WWE title to meaningless singles match with Chris Jericho.
The Big Hungry doesn’t fit into the Money in the Bank all-stars match because he is neither a babyface nor a former world champion. However, he could have easily been put into the World Heavyweight title Money in the Bank match.
Does Ryback deserve another opportunity?
Well, he certainly has had his chances. However, it would be less surprising to see Ryback cash in and become world champion that way rather than trying to defeat John Cena or CM Punk for the gold.
The Ayatollah of Rock and Rolla may deserve a spot in a Money in the Bank match more than anyone else on this list. Chris Jericho is a former world champion multiple times, has been in Money in the Bank matches and even created the idea himself.
Jericho would certainly fit well into the Money in the Bank all-stars match. In fact, I see Rob Van Dam playing a role similar to Jericho's the past few years. Van Dam may not win the match, but he will help others look good.
Depending on how long you expect Jericho to keep wrestling, this could have been his last opportunity to not only be in a Money in the Bank match, but to win it too.
