WWE's Greatest Hits of the Week on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and More

Ryan DilbertJun 8, 2018

This week's WWE-related Facebook and Twitter posts were soaked in nostalgia, looking back at the career of an icon, seeing what stars looked like before their stardom and reminding us that a current champion was at one point, a caddy.

Bret Hart Appreciation Night was a major part of WWE's social media week, both to celebrate The Hitman's career and as a means to apologize for a politically incorrect joke.

Beyond the flashbacks, cool photos and a hot lady were featured. D-Generation X lived on in a department store and WWE went back to the Stone Age.

May 25: Samoan Connection

The Rock's Twitter account is often home to interesting tidbits and this week was no different as The Brahma Bull tweeted a fantastic photo of himself and Roman Reigns together.

"

Big birthday love to my cousin @wwe @wweromanreigns Stay humble & hungry. Proud of you. #FutureWWEChamp twitter.com/TheRock/status…

— Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) May 25, 2013"

This photo shows Reigns and The Great One flexing and showing off their tattoos. The image leads one to think about how awesome a tag team with these two would be.

Reigns can celebrate his 28th birthday by eating cake off his newly-won championship gold.

May 25: Dolph Ziggler, Caddy

2 of 8

It may have seemed like it took Dolph Ziggler forever to cash in his Money in the Bank contract and become World Heavyweight Champion, but WWE's Tumblr pointed out how long Ziggler has taken to get to this level, which puts things into perspective.

WWE posted a photo of Ziggler as Kerwin White's caddy and wrote that, "It took 2,758 days for Dolph Ziggler to go from Golf Caddy to World Champion."

The Show-Off has changed dramatically since then, from his hair to his outfit, to going from being Chavo Guerrero's second to now having Big E. Langston in that role.

May 28: Bret Hart Appreciation Night

3 of 8

Monday's WWE Raw, if you couldn't tell by the fans chanting his name, was Bret Hart Appreciation Night. While most of the festivities happened after the show ended, The Hitman did offer some encouragement to Daniel Bryan in a backstage segment.

WWE's Facebook page linked first to a gallery of rare photos of Hart. The Excellence of Execution is seen in these pics wrestling in his father's famous "dungeon," acting in "Lonesome Dove" and appearing alongside Virgil.

Facebook also helped fans take a look at some of Hart's greatest matches in a video playlist that includes clips of his battles with Randy Savage, Ric Flair, Roddy Piper and a ladder match with Shawn Michaels.

WWE also shared a photo gallery of the Appreciation Night ceremony itself where Hart received a plaque.

Apparently, The Hitman made a comment that night about being afraid of Pat Patterson (who is openly gay) kneeling in front of him which received enough backlash that he took to Twitter to apologize.

"

I sincerely apologize to anyone that was in any way offended by my in-ring joke to Pat Patterson on Monday, especially to Pat ...

May 29: WWE Flintstones Movie

4 of 8

It will require a certain degree of WWE fandom and perhaps having or being a kid to get excited about the news of WWE teaming up with The Flintstones to make a crossover animated film.

Vince McMahon tweeted the news of the joint venture.

"

WWE and The Flintstones make great tag team partners! Yabba Dabba Woooo!ow.ly/lwBFr

— Vince McMahon (@VinceMcMahon) May 30, 2013

"

John Cena has clearly more than embraced comparisons Fred Flintsone and Fruity Pebbles as he and CM Punk and others will star in an animated straight-to-DVD movie featuring The Flintstones. According to the Variety.com article, Cena will be referred to as John Cenastone and Punk will be called CM Punkrock.

Fans who grew up during the Attitude Era will likely cringe at the news. Older fans may just be reminded of the days of Hulk Hogan starring in his own cartoon in the '80s.

May 29: AJ Lee Is Officially Hot

5 of 8

AJ Lee's hotness has earned her attention outside of the WWE world. She tweeted the news that she made the list of 100 Hottest Women Right Now from Complex.com.

"

“@joevilla_wwe: Congratulations to @wweajlee for being named to @complexmag 100 HOTTESTcomplex.com/pop-culture/20…” I feel all fancy-like.

— A.J. (@WWEAJLee) May 29, 2013"

She ranked 50 out of 100 beating out women like Penelope Cruz and Halle Berry.

In the piece, writer Doug Sibor says of AJ, "Admit it, you'd love to have AJ Lee kick your ass." There are undoubtedly a number of fans who would agree and let themselves be locked in her Black Widow hold.

May 30: Antonio Cesaro

6 of 8

WWE has been experimenting with Antonio Cesaro's gimmick, trying out everything from yodeling to berets. This photo from WWE's Instagram page shows off his current look.

It's a sight fans are seeing less and less of on WWE TV.

Cesaro exudes quiet arrogance here in his Swiss-themed T-shirt and sunglasses. WWE would be wise to skim through the comments next to the photo, as many fans are clearly behind Cesaro and want to see him rock in the ring more often.

May 30: Two Words for You

7 of 8

It may be 2013, but D-Generation X fever is still rampant, even among the mannequin community. Shawn Michaels of the original DX retweeted a hilarious photo of a mannequin apparently doing the infamous DX crotch chop.

"

RT: "@smfishman: This mannequin is a big DX fan. @shawnmichaels @tripleh #WWE twitter.com/smFISHMAN/stat…" -- Oh boy...that's not good!! :-)

— Shawn Michaels (@ShawnMichaels) May 30, 2013"

Maybe the employee in charge of posing the mannequin is a big WWE fan or perhaps coincidence just led to this awesome visual. Either way, there's a joke to be made about this mannequin being a better wrestler than X-Pac.

May 30: When They Were Young

8 of 8

WWE transported fans to the past when it linked to images of Superstars as youngsters on its Facebook page.

Check out a young Cody Rhodes standing behind his famous father or a teenage AJ Lee standing in line to buy tickets to WrestleMania XX. The video playlist also shows us what The Rock looked like before he was The Great One.

One of the most interesting videos here is of Rob Van Dam's early connection to WWE. "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase paid a young Van Dam a single Benjamin to kiss his feet in front of a live audience.
