Barcelona Transfer Rumors: 6 Most Interesting Stories of the Past Week

0 of 6

The summer transfer window is just around the corner and fans are getting excited. For Barcelona, the coming months will be as important as ever after talks of the Blaugrana era finally coming to an end.

Tito Vilanova and company will be forced to make some really big moves to keep Barcelona on top. So with the club ready to fortify the weak areas of the Catalan club, some interesting stories have popped up.

In this article we will take a look at the six most interesting stories over the past week and what they mean for the club.

Alex Song on the Way Out?

1 of 6

After finally finding his role behind Sergio Busquets in the Barcelona squad, it appears as though Alex Song could be leaving the Catalan club. Without receiving substantial playing time the Cameroon international is looking elsewhere.

His former club, Arsenal, has announced that they have no buy-back clause that could bring the player back. It may be his former status at Arsenal that has the midfielder feeling undervalued at Barcelona (via Goal).

Song’s cousin had these words to say. “At Arsenal he was a leader on and off the field, he doesn’t feel like the protagonist in Spain, it makes him feel bad."

But Song is not without his admirers.

The Mirror has recently reported that Tottenham is very interested in bringing Song back to England and the move could be just what the player desires.

However, moving Song would be a loss to Barcelona. He has filled in perfectly when Busquets has been off the pitch. But the duo also forms a tandem when Vilanova uses a double pivot in close games. Song is very much the new Seydou Keita and losing Song would surely hurt Barcelona.

Gerard Deulofeu Close to a New Contract

2 of 6

The most recent La Masia star to gain worldwide attention needs no introduction. Gerard Deulofeu has been a star in his own right and it only makes sense that the club is looking to extend his contract and promote him.

Other top clubs have shown massive interest in the winger and it is easy to see why.

Manchester City has been the front runners looking to take Deulofeu away from Barcelona, but that will not happen.

Football-Espana has reported that the Catalan star is set to reject an offer from Manchester City as his new contact with Barcelona is nearing completion. This will be big news for La Blaugrana as they view Deulofeu as a player for the future.

Vicente Guaita to Replace Victor Valdes?

3 of 6

Vicente Guaita has arguably been the best keeper in Spain this season. He has been a bright spot in a disappointing Valencia squad, and top clubs are taking notice.

Barcelona appears to be the main club looking to bring in the Spaniard as they are in need of a replacement for Victor Valdes.

The 26-year-old would prove a perfect replacement for the Catalan keeper. Guaita is a very good shot stopped and plays well with his feet. He is also a leader and has impeccable positioning.

Football-Espana has made it clear that Barcelona is picking up their pursuit of the Valencia keeper and fans will certainly be hoping that he is the keeper brought in this summer.

The Second Summer Pushing for Thiago Silva

4 of 6

“I have always been a Barca fan since I was a boy, when they had Romario, Rivaldo, Ronaldo… I am their No. 1 fan.” These words were spoken by Thiago Silva just recently when he admitted to being a fan of Barcelona.

Since then, it seems as though Tito Vilanova and company are interested in having a second go at bringing the Brazilian defender to the Camp Nou.

The club tried to bring Thiago Silva to Barcelona last summer, but it never happened. Now the club is in need of a center-back and Silva is viewed as the perfect option as he is arguably the best defender in the world at present time.

When asked about a future move away from PSG Thiago Silva said, “You can never close the door on something, because you don’t know what will happen in the future.”

Inside Spanish Football has quoted rumors from a Spanish paper claiming that Thiago Silva is indeed Barcelona’s first-choice defender to bring in this summer. There is no proof of this rumor at this point, but Cules everywhere are desperately hoping it is for real.

Neymar and Mats Hummels Are the Top Targets

5 of 6

It is no secret that Barcelona has been heavily linked with both Neymar and Mats Hummels. Spanish paper Marca has confirmed these reports and now claims that the duo will be Barcelona’s main targets come summer.

Neymar has been targeted for as long as anyone can remember. The club views the Brazilian as the perfect answer to Barcelona’s offensive problems and at this point there appears to be nothing that can keep Neymar from coming to Catalonia.

In fact, Goal has reported that Neymar will be traveling to Barcelona in July to discuss the high-profile move.

Mats Hummels is the second star that Barcelona appears set to bring in during the next few months. The defender is thought of as the ideal replacement for an aging Carles Puyol and the perfect partner for Gerard Pique.

The German club will be hoping to hold on to their defensive star. Barcelona will have to press hard to bring Hummels to the Camp Nou, but many Cules feel the move is set to take place.

Tito Vilanova Staying in Charge

6 of 6

After facing a few months away from Barcelona due to a relapse in his battle with cancer, Tito Vilanova’s future with the club looked questionable. But the club has officially made it known that the Catalan manager will continue as Barcelona’s man in charge.

Vilanova called a press conference a few days ago, his first since the news of a relapse was announced. In this conference he had these words to say (via ESPN).

“I have the strength and motivation to continue next season. In no moment have I thought of stepping down. Football is my life. I enjoy my job - I am lucky in that."

Barcelona fans can now take a deep breath knowing their manager is back in good health and will be capable of leading the club next season. Vilanova wants to continue for a long time, and Barcelona is happy to let that happen.

Vilanova will have more pressure on him than ever with the need of addressing the problems at Barcelona. But if he is able to fix the glaring weaknesses, he could lead Barcelona to glory again next season.
