About

Hello all, my name is Tre'. I am a Catalan-Basque descendant living in United States, though my blood stands out above all else. I grew up on Spanish futbol and am a religious follower of FC Barcelona, Athletic Club Bilbao and La Roja Football. However, I love every club in Spain from the first division to youth leagues and it is my promise to always deliver unbiased articles about every La Liga club. So if ever you perceive bias in an article, call me out! I also love supporting my UNC Tarheels, Pittsburgh Steelers, and all Boston area teams. When I was a kid I flew for the first time to Boston with my family and have loved Beantown ever since. Currently, I am completing my senior year of College and plan to move back to Barcelona or Bilbao after grad school to teach English and continue my career as a professional sports writer.

I am also the Basque expert and a La Liga news writer for InsideSpanishFootball.com. Also contributed to Counterattackingfootball.com and LovelyLeftFoot.com

    Hi Tre',

I just read your article on Barca's 25 greatest imports and I thought it was great. What I loved most was the fact that you actually considered a time frame beyond that of your own first-hand experience.

Nobody seems to do that anymore, with the majority of "greatest of all time lists" limited to examples from the last 5-10 years. But your inclusion of the likes of Krankl, Villaverde, Kocsis etc. made for some of the most fair and unbiased journalism that I've had the pleasure of reading lately.

I'm by no means an expert of the subject, but as a fan at least it was a truly refreshing read. Thanks for a great article, and keep up the good work Tre' - all the best!

    Hi Tre,
can you put light or your thought on the following issue:
I think we have to start thinking about phasing out Xavi, I am afraid that would not be easy. We lost Thiago, when I saw him playing for Bayern, I felt sorry for Barca. I do not know if we can replace him with someone this matured. There are potentials out there in Oliver Torres and Barca should spend crazy amount of money if necessary should sell sergio roberto, Alex Song if necessary i order to finance that, any thoughts ??????????
I have another point, crazy it may sound: Messi could replace Xavi in few years. Recently we have seen him in a traditional no 10 position. We have a front man in Neymar. Besides he plays in that position for Argentina. As he ages, burst running or any recurrence of injury could force him to play in a traditional no 10 position. May be a crazy thought....

this might go off topic but i think that since Barcelona fans are too into their recent trophy wins that they are forgetting that the years of their domination are coming to an end, Xavi is not the same , iniesta only has like 2-3 season left of him, fabregas is not suited for la liga football. Also with the new goalkeeper coming in I can see some major consequences. Victor valdes is not replaceable for Barcelona fc right now, bringing in a young goalkeeper that will have loads of expectations will cost them. As for their defense I dont believe Pique,Bartra will be good enough in the seasons to come.

Tre, Ever since you wrote the article on Atletico Bilbao's rise in la liga, I have come to really admire them. Their is one question that I have been wondering about, Do you think that Atletico Bilbao could go for la liga glory in the seasons to come? Or will they just eventually become another "Valencia" (if that's the appropriate team to mention)

ps-hope you understood, also sorry if my English is bad as I am from Seville,Spain and speak spanish

Hey tre, Don't you think courtois has been hyped over the top by most people? He is a good young keeper, will be great one day. Some articles which describe the top players of la liga, eurpe, world football etc have placed him as the second best atletico player after costa and as the best la liga goalkeeper. There are players like gabi, koke, felipe luis, godin etc who are more important to the side and are boasting outfield domination over each of their opponent this season. When it comes to keepers, I feel goalkeepers like roberto, diego alves, navas have been better. Even valdes and diego lopez have been better than him. I don't generally pay a lot of attention to these lists as most of the players included are stars for big teams, but the current hype around courtois is certainly too much.
Another question would be - should del bosque call up carlos martinez for the right back position for spain? He has been performing good and is more complete than juanfran, arbeloa and azpilicueta.

Hey Tre. ..Do you think Gerard Deulofeu can play as a False 9 once he returns to Barcelona. He is an exciting prospect for Barcelona but I don't see him play as a False 9..and don't you think it's time for Barcelona to change their formation, probably 4-2-3-1 with Busquets and Xavi as CDM's..Busquets takes care of the defense and Xavi can function as a deep lying play-maker...Iniesta to the left wing..Messi as CAM and Neymar as sole striker and rotating the right wing between Pedro and Sanchez..Don't you think that'd work ?
