This weekend marks the start of a two-month-long journey to crown an NBA champion.

The reigning NBA champion Miami Heat, which will have home-court advantage throughout the playoffs, are heavy favorites to repeat with leading MVP candidate LeBron James playing the best basketball of his career heading into the Heat's first-round series against the Milwaukee Bucks, which finished the regular season six games below .500.

Elsewhere in the East, the second-seeded New York Knicks will be aiming to win their first playoff series in over a decade as they get set to host the undermanned Boston Celtics in Saturday afternoon's postseason opener.

In the two other under-the-radar Eastern Conference first-round series, the fourth-seeded Brooklyn Nets will take on the Derrick Rose-less Chicago Bulls and the third-seeded Indiana Pacers will square off with the Atlanta Hawks.

Meanwhile, out West, the L.A. Lakers' offseason efforts wound up paying off, as the Lake Show will enter the playoffs as a No. 7 seed in the Western Conference despite losing Kobe Bryant to a season-ending Achilles injury, setting up an intriguing first-round matchup with the injury-plagued San Antonio Spurs, the No. 2 seed in the West.

The defending Western Conference champion Oklahoma City Thunder, the top seed in the conference, look poised to make another deep run, but first they'll have to get past their former teammate James Harden and the explosive Houston Rockets. Houston ranked second in the league in scoring during the regular season, averaging roughly 106 points per night.

The other two Round 1 series out West will feature the third-seeded Denver Nuggets facing off against the Golden State Warriors, and the fourth-seeded L.A. Clippers battling the Memphis Grizzlies in a rematch of last year's epic seven-game first-round series.

With tipoff set for Saturday afternoon, here we'll get you set with everything you need to know to make sure you don't miss a minute of playoff basketball.
