New Orleans Saints: 2009 Schedule Breakdown

Signature SportsCorrespondent IApril 16, 2009

DETROIT - DECEMBER 21: Quarterback Drew Brees #9 of the New Orleans Saints drops back to pass in the third quarter against the Detroit Lions on December 21, 2008 at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. The Saints defeated the Lions 42-7. (Photo by Leon Halip/Getty Images)
The Saints have the eighth hardest schedule in the league, but I still think they can pull off a playoff run. Here is how I think the season will go:

Week One—Saints vs. Lions
The Lions are a team I laugh at. They do have the first pick and will be better than last year, but the Saints beat them in Detroit, 42-7. Drew Brees had a great game and even with the first pick in the draft, the Saints will still beat them.
(Prediction: Win, 1-0)

Week Two—Saints at Eagles
The Eagles are a great team. It won't be easy to beat them at all. In 2006, the Saints beat the Eagles in the regular season and in the playoffs. I am sure the Eagles are hungry for revenge.
A team that has been to the playoffs so many years in a row and not won a Super Bowl will be more than ready to win one this year. It is an away game, and it won't be easy.
(Prediction: Loss, 1-1)

Week Three—Saints at Bills
The Bills will be another hard team to beat. With the newly acquired TO, it won't be easy. At least the Saints get them early in the year, so it won't be too cold. This will be a good game to watch. The Bills still need a franchise QB, and although I think it won't be an easy game, it will be a high scoring one.
(Prediction: Win, 2-1)

Week Four—Saints vs. Jets
Like Milla said in his Bucs breakdown thread, the Jets are garbage. They have a great team, but without a QB they are of no threat and will not get close to the playoffs. It will be fun to see who they draft, but I don't think the Saints will have too much trouble with them.
(Prediction: Win, 3-1)

Week Five—Bye Week

Week Six—Saints vs. Giants
What can I say? The Giants are the Giants. They have a great defense and a great running game, and if they get Braylon Edwards, it won't be easy at all to stop them. They are probably the best team in the NFC.
(Prediction: Loss, 3-2)

Week Seven—Saints at Dolphins
The Dolphins are a great team. They showed us last year what they can do. They will take a shot at the playoffs again. This will be an actual game, and it will be fun to watch it on TV.
I still have trust in my Saints though.
(Prediction: Win, 4-2)

Week Eight—Saints vs. Falcons
What can I say about the Falcons and what they did last year? Wow!
Matt Ryan was amazing; I didn't think he would turn the team around like that. Although most of the credit goes to Michael Turner and the defense, Ryan did great. I just don't think they will live up to the hype this year. It should be a fun game to watch though.
(Prediction: Win, 5-2)

Week Nine—Saints vs. Panthers
The Panthers make me laugh. After I saw what Jake Delhomme did in the playoffs, it's just too funny. This is still a great team. Steve Smith will have another great year. This game on the road won't be an easy one.
(Prediction: Loss, 5-3)
Week 10—Saints at Rams
The Rams...Let's just say this won't be a game that will be fun to watch. Watch another game, please. The Saints are going to kill them.
Although the Saints in recent years have been known to lose to bad teams when they should win, I don't think this will be the case this year. We will have a good time at this game.
(Prediction: Win, 6-3)

Week 11—Saints at Buccaneers
What can I say about the Bucs? Let me think, they are a great team, but with a rookie coach and without a good QB, it might not be as hard to beat them as I thought.
They are in the rebuilding process with a bunch of their veteran members gone. They did get Winslow, but one player does not make a team.
(Prediction: Win, 7-3)

Week 12—Saints vs. Patriots
This is a home game for the Saints, and what better day to play than Monday Night Football. This game will be watched by the entire nation. I just hope it's a close one.
The Patriots are a fun team to watch. What GM wouldn't want Tom Brady at quarterback? I say this would be an easy game if it was at the beginning of the year with Brady just starting to get the feel back, but that is not the case as it is late in the season.
What can I say? I just hope it's not too bad.
(Prediction: Loss 7-4)

Week 13—Saints at Redskins
The Redskins are still in search of a QB. This team won't be easy to beat. Last year, the Saints had a nine-point lead in the fourth quarter, which we let go of and lost. The Saints lost on a long touchdown pass to Randle El. This was mostly because of our safety and corner lack.
This year, I think it will be different. The Saints have added Darren Sharper, and the draft is always a good thing to look forward to.
(Prediction: Win, 8-4)

Week 14—Saints at Falcons
Yes, we are playing the Falcons again. Like I said before, they won't get the same hype. They won't make playoffs this year either. The Saints are ready for them by this time of the year, and it will be a good one to watch.
(Prediction: Win, 9-4)

Week 15—Saints vs. Cowboys
Well, what can I say about Tony Romo? This team has always been fun to watch, and now with Terrell Owens out of the way, what will happen?
Sean Payton loves beating his old team, as we saw happen in 2006. I think it will end the same way.
(Prediction: Win, 10-4)

Week 16—Saints vs. Buccaneers
The Bucs again. Well, it's hard to beat the Bucs both times in the season. It will be the same thing again this year. I don't know how good the game will be, but it should be an OK one.
(Prediction: Loss 10-5)

Week 17—Saints at Panthers
The Saints probably should be in the playoffs by this time. It isn't smart to get one of your starters hurt either. I think they let this one slip while they prepare for the playoffs.
(Prediction: Loss, 10-6)

Ten and six is not bad. That is how I think our season will play out. Let's hope I am right.
