Key Storyline: Harbaugh Bowl

If you haven’t heard by now, the Harbaugh brothers are the two head coaches in this epic matchup.

Jim Harbaugh led the 49ers to the Super Bowl in his second season after bowing out to the New York Giants in last year’s NFC championship. John Harbaugh has finally reached the big game after taking the head coaching position for the Ravens in 2008, also falling a win shy of the Super Bowl last year.

These two have been competitive their whole lives and grew up to be two of the best coaches in the NFL. It’s no surprise to see them here, meeting for the second time in their short history together in the league.

John came out ahead in the first battle, as his Ravens took care of business back on Thanksgiving Day in 2011 with a 16-6 victory.

However, with the stakes raised on Feb. 3, anything could happen in the rematch.

Key Matchup: Line of Scrimmage

The Baltimore defensive front is going to be the key to this game, and containing 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and running back Frank Gore will be instrumental to pulling off the upset.

If the Ravens cannot hold the edge to keep Kaepernick in the pocket while simultaneously putting him under pressure, they are going to get gashed by the running game.

Whether it’s Kaepernick slithering out for big gains or Gore smashing his way through the teeth of the defense, this one is all but over if the Ravens cannot contain and get pressure.

This Lombardi Trophy is going to be won or lost in the trenches.

Prediction: Ravens 31, 49ers 24

I believe the Ravens will find a way to stop Kaepernick and put up enough points to win this by a touchdown.

Quarterback Joe Flacco has developed into an elite signal-caller and was having no problem throwing into the strong winds in New England in the AFC championship. I imagine his accuracy and timing will be even better inside the Superdome down in the Big Easy.

If his receivers can make plays and running back Ray Rice can find some lanes to work with, the Ravens will finish their incredible Super Bowl run as champions and send star linebacker Ray Lewis into retirement with one more ring.
