Report: Paramount Confirms Lance Armstrong Movie Is in the Works

Adam WellsJun 7, 2018

If you wanted to know all the salacious details of Lance Armstrong's life and career without watching his two-hour interview with Oprah, you will soon be able to catch them on the big screen at your local movie theater.

According to a report from Steve Holden of the BBC, Paramount Pictures has acquired the rights to a book based on Armstrong's career and history with performance-enhancing drugs:

"

The Hollywood studio, along with J.J. Abrams' production company, Bad Robot, have secured the rights to an upcoming book about the athlete.

Juliet Macur's Cycle of Lies: The Fall of Lance Armstrong is due out in June.

There is currently no director, writer, star or start date for the film.

As evidenced by that last part, there is a long, long way to go before any potential movie based on Armstrong sees the light of day, if it ever does. Studios acquire the rights to books and video games all the time, but not every one gets made into a movie.

Considering that there is no one attached to the film—aside from Paramount Pictures and J.J. Abrams' production studio—not to mention that the book it is based on has yet to be released, we could be looking at two years before this movie gets released.

If it does end up getting made, it will be interesting to see what aspects of Armstrong the story focuses on, how the producers and director handle his story and what the end of the story would be.

It does have enough elements of a film in the vein of Scarface, with very different subject matter. You have the conquering hero sitting at the top of his profession, only to fall on his sword because of ego and hubris.

We shall see what happens with the movie if and when it gets made.
