The 22-year-old has been linked for some time now with a move to the Emirates, and with their attack continuing to sputter, the Gunners could certainly use the skill and attacking prowess that the French international brings to the table.
M'Vila recently questioned his future at the Ligue 1 club, telling Sky Sports:
I am at Rennes at the moment, so let's see what happens.
If the club receives a good offer [for me] and I like the destination, then I will go. There is no doubt about that.
Until that happens, nothing can be said.
Arsenal had tried to sign M'Vila over the previous summer transfer window (per Sky Sports) and were believed to have even made a bid for the 22-year-old.
The midfielder hasn't played for Rennes since suffering a knee injury against Paris St. Germain on Nov. 17, but there is little doubting the class and ability of M'Vila, whom many believe is ready to match the switch to the English Premier League in the near future.
M'Vila has made 14 appearances this season and, despite not setting the world on fire, has continued to have a strong year at the club.
The 22-year-old would likely cost Arsenal around £12 million (per The Daily Mail) if they were to pursue a move this winter, with the biggest attractions being his passing ability and on-ball skills that he would bring to the North London club.
Oh and he's French, which we all know Arsene Wenger loves.
Interestingly, M'Vila is banned from playing for the French national team until 2014 after a string of incidents led him into being temporarily suspended from international duties—bringing into question his personal discipline and temperament.
However, there is a real argument to be made here that those factors won't play on Arsenal's mind, as Wenger runs a tight ship and can likely iron out any issues existent in M'Vila. And if that happens, then Wenger has a player who won't ever have to leave next year for international duties and can't ever pick up an injury playing outside of the club.
The veteran manager has already spoken out this year about how he doesn't want to let players leave on international duty—now he could very well be presented with one whom that can't happen to, making for an interesting transfer decision ahead this January.
Should Arsenal try and sign Yann M'Vila this winter transfer window?
