Is Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson the Mystery Person Behind the Shield?
The biggest story in the WWE over the last month has been the rise of The Shield. For those who aren't as up to date, The Shield is a new faction made up of three young superstars—Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns.
What makes The Shield so interesting and intriguing is the mystery that comes along with them. The mystery of their motive and potentially who is behind them.
We have seen The Shield come out and protect CM Punk multiple times, which could lead one to the idea that they are working directly with Paul Heyman and Punk.
However, when asked about that topic in an interview with Michael Cole, Ambrose denied that they were working directly with Punk. Rollins made it known that they see something wrong with the current WWE structure and that they are stepping in to fix it.
The Shield might just be a group of young superstars who are trying to change the direction that the company is going in, but that would be unlike the WWE to try and just feed fans such a simple idea from such an entertaining opportunity.
The Shield needs to have an ulterior motive. That motive could easily be coming from a leader, someone from behind the scenes. While that leader could be Heyman or Punk, it could also be someone else.
But could it be The Rock who is behind this new faction? What motive would The Rock have?
On the 1000th episode of Raw, The Rock announced that he would challenge for the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble. The foregone conclusion was that he would face Punk in that title match.
The Rock could be using The Shield to make sure that Punk still holds the belt until the Royal Rumble event.
Another interesting factor is the fact that The Rock is related to Reigns. Reigns is a member of the Anoa'i family. He is the son of Sika Anoa'i, who was one of the Wild Samoans. He is also related to Rikishi, Yokozuna and Umaga.
Reigns' connection with The Rock may also be an important element in this situation.
Calling the shots for The Shield could also be a way for The Rock to be with the WWE week in and week out without actually being there. He may be molding the new breed of superstars to help make a change in the company, like The Shield claims they are doing.
It will definitely be interesting to see what actually happens with The Shield. While there are many ways the WWE could go with it, having The Rock as the leader behind it would definitely be an interesting twist on the situation.
