I used to be big into getting on sportsline.com to create threads and also commenting on other people's threads, but it has gotten to the point where there is nothing but whining going on these days.
So, I am going to comment on everyone via this article.
1. GM Ted Thompson
I have mixed feelings about Thompson. He has a good track record with the draft, but does nothing in free agency. With the Packers switching to a 3-4 defense in 2009, I thought he would bring in some help tor at least compete with our current defense.
I do believe Ted will go crazy with this draft and take almost all defensive players.
I do like the signing of Anthony Smith, however, as he could be a huge pickup. He is only going to make $710K this year, and could be in the mix for starting safety spot, or be a special teams guy.
I think Thompson is preparing for no salary cap at the end of next year.
So, after the mess that Ted Thompson had to clean up from the Sherman era, I would give him a C+.
2. Free agency
I am going to make this plain and simple: I did not want Albert Haynesworth.
Seven years, $100 million? Give me a break. He will be cut in two years because of his salary, especially since Washington spends money like it grows on trees.
I was also reading on packersnews.com (I'm not sure who the writer is), and writer said he heard a rumor that the Packers made an offer to Carolina Panthers' DE Julius Peppers that would cost us at least a first and third-round draft pick and $16 million a year.
Sure, he is a great player, but I want Thompson to sign a few more free agents to compete for a 3-4 defense.
Note: For those interested, the writer takes your questions on the site from 1 p.m. to whenever on Tuesdays.
3. Brett Favre
First off, let me say I am a huge Brett Favre fan—always has been and always will be.
I do believe that both sides were wrong during last year's preseason drama. I agree with going with Rodgers since he is the future of the organization. If Favre would have come back, that would have been the end to Rodgers in Green Bay.
Favre took too long to decide to come back.
