WWE Breaking News: Kelly Kelly Released

According to WWE.com, former WWE Divas Champion Kelly Kelly has been released from her contract. The report from WWE.com reads: "WWE has come to terms on the release of WWE Diva Kelly Kelly as of today, September 28, 2012. WWE wishes Kelly Kelly the best in all her future endeavors."

Kelly made her debut on June 13, 2006 as an exhibitionist on WWE's ECW brand. She would make her debut shortly after in a losing effort while teaming with her then on-screen and off-screen boyfriend, Mike Knox. Kelly stayed on ECW until July of 2008 when she was drafted to Raw.

After a year of appearing on and off, Kelly Kelly became the No. 1 contender for the Divas Championship on May 18, 2009. Kelly feuded with Maryse for a few weeks in an attempt to capture her first title in WWE, but came up short on every occasion.

In 2010, Kelly was moved to SmackDown, once again as a result of the WWE Draft. There, she would begin to gain more popularity amongst WWE's audience, beginning to feud with the villainous tandem known as LayCool. Kelly received a shot at the Women's Championship in that year's Money in the Bank pay-per-view in a losing effort. While on the blue brand, Kelly had a notable romantic storyline with Drew McIntyre and appeared as Edge's ally on a few episodes of SmackDown.

Kelly's stint on WWE's "b brand" was short lived, as she was transferred back to Raw via the 2011 WWE supplemental draft. There, Kelly would almost embark on a feud with Kharma, but it was ditched as Kharma had to leave WWE television due to pregnancy before her subsequent firing in 2012. On June 20, Kelly captured her first and only title in WWE, pinning Brie Bella to win the WWE Divas Championship after being voted by the people to face the conniving champion.

Kelly began feuding with Beth Phoenix shortly after, upsetting her at the 2011 SummerSlam pay-per-view and at Night of Champions. Kelly would drop her title to Phoenix at Hell in a Cell that same year. Kelly went on to feud with Phoenix and former associate Eve, teaming with television star Maria Menounos at the most recent WrestleMania to beat the Divas Champion and Eve.

After being sporadically used, Kelly made her last appearance for WWE at SummerSlam, dancing along to Kevin Rudolf's hit "Don't Give Up."

I am not surprised about this release, seeing as how Kelly has apparently wanted to pursue other careers for a while now and hasn't appeared on television for a long time.
