I know a lot of fans don't want him, fearful of his past, they say things like:
"If Dallas let him go, what makes you think the Giants would want him?"; "The Giants are a group of great guys, Owens would be bad for club house morale"; "Issues didn't just arise in Dallas, there were big problems in Philadelphia too"; "We should just go with Marvin Harrison", and one other from a slightly different angle, "He is 35 years old. He's already washed-up."
Like I said, these kinds of comments are born out of fear. But for me, none of them are valid reasons why the Giants shouldn't pick up one of the best wide receivers in the NFL.
I think that means that Eli can still remain the captain of the Giants even if Terrell Owens comes to New York. And I really believe the great personalities that exist in the Giants club house can help Terrell Owens clean up his act.
Another great thing about Owens is he is not a liar. He says lots of stupid things, but he never lies. Maybe it's just that the truth hurts?
Owens is way better than Marvin Harrison. I know Harrison is good, but I don't think he's enough to put the Giants over the top. Owens is. And I don't think the Giants can bring back Plaxico Burress . . . not after what he did to them last season. I know Owens can act up from time to time, but in his defense: HE NEVER SHOT HIMSELF!
Let's think about that for a second. Owens is a jerk because he always wants to win, and shoots off his mouth about it. However, Burress was on a winning team when he went into public, fumbled with a gun in a club, and shot himself. I don't want to give him another chance. He doesn't deserve it.
I think Owens would make a great Giant. If they picked him up, I think they's win at least 12 games, and very likely, have the best record in the NFC . . . if not the entire NFL.
Finally, let me assure you that Owens is not washed up. In fact, he actually got faster last year. So don't worry about him being great again next season. He will be. He's probably the best in the league.
Pick him up, Giants!
