Taylor And Redskins Divorce After One Year

The Washington Redskins have released defensive end Jason Taylor after only one season.

According to several sources, Taylor did not want to follow the team's offseason workout addendum. The two sides also failed to restructure the six time pro bowler contract, Taylor was suppose to make 8.5 million next season.

Taylor was injured much of the 2008 NFL season, due to calf problems he suffered in Week Three against the Arizona Cardinals.

During the season,Taylor was unhappy about not being used the way he would like. Taylor often stated ''Put me in the right siuation and I will produce, Taylor was in a scheme that clearly didn't fit his skills and not meshing well with defensive coordinator Greg Blache, according to team sources.

After the bust season, there was a ton of speculation that the Redskins were going to release Taylor, who was acquired from Miami. Redskins Vice President Vinny Cerrato, at the time, was quoted as saying "We're not doing anything with Jason. He is going to be here.'

Obviously with this move Cerrato changed his mind ,and now the Redskins look to go in a different direction and move on.

"Jason Taylor was a real professional during his time with the Redskins," coach Jim Zorn said. "He played hurt, but still gave his best effort to be prepared and play hard every week We wish him and his family the very best."

The Redskins gave up second- and sixth-round draft choices to acquire Taylor from the Miami Dolphins. The Redskins have only four draft picks,Due to trading for a guy that will not be on their roster next season.

The Redskins Will save $8 million by releasing Taylor. They may have some money to add another free agent as well, despite the fact that they have spent $180 million on three players already, including former Tennessee Titans DT Albert Haynesworth.
