WWE SummerSlam 2012: Could the Rock Interfere in the Triple Threat Match?
CM Punk, John Cena and Big Show are set to battle for Punk's WWE Championship belt in a Triple Threat match at SummerSlam on Sunday night.
To put it simply, the three men participating in this match aren't exactly huge fans of one another, so you know we're going to be in for an exciting match.
It won't be surprising if Cena and Big Show go at Punk from the opening bell in an attempt to ensure that it will be the two of them fighting for Punk's title. But don't be shocked if Punk and Cena try to team up to take Big Show out of the equation (as unlikely as that may seem).
There is another thing that you shouldn't be surprised about: The Rock stepping in to interfere in this match.
The Rock and Cena met in the main event at WrestleMania XXVIII back in April. The WWE talked this matchup endlessly for a year, claiming that it was a "once in a lifetime" match. It wasn't exactly that, but it was entertaining enough, as we saw the Rock beat Cena by finishing him off with a Rock Bottom.
Following that match, the Rock praised Cena for his performance and made a genuine effort to make Cena believe that he meant it. It would be a stretch to say that the two are friendly, but they definitely have a mutual respect for each other as competitors.
Fast forward to Raw several weeks back, when the Rock went into his whole spiel about how he would one day become WWE Champion again, announcing that he would be awarded a match against whoever won the Royal Rumble.
Later on at that same show, the Rock interfered to break up a brutal assault on Cena by Big Show. Surely Cena was grateful for that, but he could do nothing as the Rock was beaten down by Punk later in the night.
That leaves room for some interesting occurrences at SummerSlam. WWE fans have been complaining that the industry has become too predictable with its main-event matches, and that things need to be shaken up a little bit.
There isn't a better time to shake things up than at SummerSlam.
Nothing would pump some life into the Triple Threat match more than the Rock running out of the tunnel to make sure that Punk has no chance at defending his WWE title.
Say the ref gets knocked out and Punk is beating on Cena. The Rock runs in, Rock Bottoms Punk and runs out of the ring. Cena then wakes the ref up, covers Punk and wins the WWE title, thereby setting up a title match between himself and the Rock down the road.
Even if you don't think it will happen, it isn't too crazy to go down. This match needs a little more spice, and the Rock is the perfect guy to do it.
