Liverpool Transfer News: Tracking Latest Rumors, Updates

Vince SiuMay 31, 2018

With just over two weeks left, the transfer season is really heating up.

Only four days ago, Liverpool had only Fabio Borini as their summer signing, but the arrival of ex-Swansea midfielder Joe Allen doubled that count.

And his arrival has kick-started a whole new raft of rumors with players linked to (and from) Anfield.

Let’s take a quick look at the latest speculation and updates surrounding Liverpool.

Daniel Agger

1 of 9

The first rumor will be of immense interest (and dismay) to Liverpool fans.

Kop favorite Daniel Agger has been linked with a big-money transfer to reigning Premier League champions Manchester City (The Guardian).

Agger has said publicly that he wants to remain at Anfield, but a bid in excess of £25 million may very well tempt Brendan Rodgers in letting his star defender go.

Ashley Williams

2 of 9

If Daniel Agger does leave Liverpool, Rodgers could once again turn to his old club Swansea for a replacement.

Ashley Williams, who starred for Swansea in their maiden Premier League campaign last season, is apparently Rodgers’ choice as Agger’s successor (Daily Mirror).

Clint Dempsey/Charlie Adam

3 of 9

The latest twist in the Clint Dempsey saga is that Charlie Adam is to be offered in a swap deal with Fulham (Daily Mail).

American Dempsey has been linked with Liverpool all summer, while Adam’s penchant for “Hollywood passes” has long seemed out of sync with Rodgers’ system.

This could be a transfer that benefits all parties involved.

Gaston Ramirez

Another forward who has been linked with Liverpool all summer is Uruguayan Gaston Ramirez.

With Liverpool supposedly stalling on submitting a formal bid to Bologna, rivals Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly stepped up their interest, only for Ramirez to turn down a move to White Hart Lane (Daily Mail).

If the other rumors surrounding Liverpool prove true, the Ramirez transfer seems unlikely to happen this summer.

Nuri Sahin

5 of 9

Real Madrid’s Nuri Sahin has long been linked with a loan move to Arsenal, but Liverpool have apparently emerged as strong contenders in the race to sign the Turkish midfielder.

According to Marca (via the Daily Star), Sahin faces a choice between the Gunners, whom he reportedly favors, and the Reds, who are supposedly Jose Mourinho’s preference.

Either way, his eventual new employers will find themselves with a very interesting option to use in the middle of the park.

Cristian Tello

Also involved in a transfer tug of war between Liverpool and Arsenal is Barcelona’s young winger Cristian Tello (The Telegraph).

Tello, who graduated from Barcelona’s La Masia academy, would find himself at home in the 4-3-3 system and the quick passing style implemented by Rodgers at Liverpool.

Theo Walcott

7 of 9

On the opposite flank, Rodgers is reportedly interested in bringing in Arsenal right winger Theo Walcott and might be rivaling Internazionale for his signature (Metro).

Liverpool’s games before the start of the Premier League season have shown Rodgers’ preference for short and quick widemen, and Walcott would provide a speedy outlet out on the right.

Adam Johnson

8 of 9

Could Jack Rodwell be the key to Adam Johnson’s eventual destination?

The sale of the ex-Everton prospect to league champions Manchester City has apparently opened the door to the City winger joining Everton (Daily Mail).

Liverpool could do with Johnson’s trickery, pace and goal-scoring ability from the flanks, but they could be beaten to his signature by their Merseyside rivals.

Xabi Alonso

9 of 9

Wait. Seriously?

Yes, apparently Xabi Alonso has turned down a contract extension at Real Madrid and could be on the move this summer (Daily Mail).

There’s nothing concrete in this at all, but the mere mention of Xabi Alonso’s name gets Liverpool fans excited.

And how Anfield would erupt if his name rang around the stadium again.
