Junior Dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez Slated for Dec. 29 in Las Vegas

UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos will make the second defense of his title against the very man he beat to get the belt.

Following the UFC 150 post-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White confirmed to the MMA media that the Brazilian will face off with Cain Velasquez at the promotion's annual year-end event on Dec. 29.

White did reveal that Dos Santos has a desire to fight former Strikeforce and K-1 champion Alistair Overeem, but due to Overeem's suspension with the Nevada State Athletic Commission, there's no chance that fight will take place this year.

As such, White revealed the end-of-year event, likely UFC 155, will be headlined by the rematch of the first UFC on Fox event. In that fight, Dos Santos knocked out Velasquez in just 64 seconds.

Since then, both fighters have battled through injuries. However, both came out victorious at UFC 146 in May. Dos Santos finished former UFC champion Frank Mir, while Velasquez demolished former Strikeforce fighter Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva in the co-main event.

Rumors swirled about the bout taking place at UFC 152 in Toronto in September, but it was never made official. With UFC 152, 153 and 154 all being headlined by championship bouts, the Dec. 29 event is the natural home for the fight.

At this point in time, White would not confirm a venue for the event, but it is likely to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The venue has hosted the last two end-of-year events, also in Las Vegas.
