5 Fighters I Want The UFC To Sign

Sean SchimlingFeb 22, 2009

The UFc has already missed out on a huge opportunity to sign Jake Shields, Robbie Lawler, Gina Carano, etc. But there are still fighters out there to be signed. The UFC should at-least try to match what Strikeforce did.

Here are my five fighters the UFC should sign.

5. Alistair Overeem

Alistair Overeem is a fighter who can bring some depth to the HW division. He is veteran fighter, and he is only 28 years old! his record of 29-11 shows that he has more experience than 95 percent of the fighters in the HW division.

I think he could come in and immediately stake his claim for the No.1 contender spot. He last loss in 2007 to Sergei Khartionov, since that fight he is 4-0-1, with wins over Paul Buentello and Mark Hunt. He has stated he wants to fight for the UFC, so the ball is in Dana's court now.

4. Dan Lauzon

Dan Lauzon is 12-2 in his MMA career. He has fought in the UFC once, at UFC 64. He lost his fight to Spencer Fisher, he was only 18 at the time. Fast forward two years, and you have a more complete dominating fighter.

I first seen Dan Lauzon on the show TapOut and decided to do some research on him (youtube, wikipedia, google, etc.). He fights at 155 pounds, the same as his brother Joe, which could cause problems. But then again, maybe they have a score to settle, who wouldn't like to see two brothers beat up on each-other?

Dan Lauzon is only 20 years old and full of potential. He recently made quick work of Bobby Green at Affliction:Day Of Reckoning. The UFC would be smart to offer this young star a contract.

3. Gegard Mousasi

Here is my *duh* pick. Gegard Mousasi is a very talented fighter from Armenia. In 2008 alone he went 6-0 in MMA, and 1-0 in K-1. He was thought by many to be a threat to be a top 5 middleweight, but that has changed.

Not because he has fallen off, but because he has decided to move up in weight. He is now going to fight at light-heavyweight or heavyweight. The UFC would hope for heavyweight, he could bulk up their shallow HW division. He would also be a great match for Frank Mir, Brock Lesnar, Randy Couture, Gabriel Gonzaga, etc.

Gegard Mousasi would be very, very, very welcomed addition to the UFC, in any division!

2. Paulo Filho

Yes, I said It, the UFC should sign Paulo Filho! Go head let the hate comments come!

He's had time to get things sorted out, and with Anderson's retirement looming the 185 pound division is up for grabs. I know he has had a lot of problems, but here is my solution.

Sign him to a one fight deal and see how he does. I mean you don't go 16-0ย  and become the WEC middleweight champion by accident. He has the skills and tools to become great, he just needs to become mentally stable. That last fight with Chael Sonnen was quite ridiculous.

There are numerous questiosn about him, but I believe with help he could return to greatness. I mean this guy was once mention on lists of fighters who could beat Anderson Silva. He was once considered a top 5 middleweight, that kind of talent doesn't just go away.

1. Muhammed Lawal

Muhammed Lawal is a 28 year old fighter, he is also known as "King Mo." He is known for his flashy entrances. Although he has only fought 3 times, he has made a name for himself. He is currently 3-0 with three TKO's.

He is young at 28 years of age, and has a ton of potential. Dana White could benefit from signing him. He is an entertainer, and would likely be a very popular fighter. Which means he would generate money, and we all know Dana, " LOOOOVES MONEY!!!" (In my best Entertainer voice)

Lawal may be inexperienced, but with help from Team Quest he should be ok. This makes sense for Lawal for a coupleย reasons.

1. He is currently fighting sub-par opponents in Japan, if he wants to really test himself the UFC has the best to offer.

2. He is an entertainer, and what bigger stage is there than the UFC? He could make a huge name for himself and become Dana's new ratings machine.

Most may not agree with my choices, but oh well. I think these fighters would help the UFC, and draw even more attention and fans to them.

Just for fun

Sounds good to me!
