FC Barcelona: Picking a Starting XI to Include New Signing Jordi Alba
The recent addition of Jordi Alba to the ranks of FC Barcelona will help in the 2012-2013 La Liga season. The time has come to pick a starting XI which reflects one of the newest members of La Blaugrana.
A decision was also made to include a new generation of Barca players to complement the recent changes in the club.
An invitation is set for the B/R Readers to sit back, relax and enjoy the slideshow of the starting XI for FC Barcelona.
GK: Victor Valdes
Victor Valdes was instrumental in deflecting attempts by Bayer Leverkusen to score in the UEFA Champions League match between Barca and the German team on March 7 2012. While Lionel Messi and Cristian Tello deserve credit in this important match, Valdes deserves credit as well.
The goalkeeper for the starting XI for the next La Liga season is going to be Victor Valdes.
While Jordi Alba is playing left back, Adriano could fit in as a right back and become back up to Alba. According to the FC Barcelona website, Adriano is able to play in various areas of defense and midfield with great results.
A great example of Adriano as right back was during the Herbalife World Football Challenge match between FC Barcelona and Club America in 2011.
CB: Javier Mascherano
CB: Gerard Pique
Many people have written about Gerard Pique as a center back in defense. It was an honor to see Gerard Pique in action during the Herbalife World Football Challenge match at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Florida in 2011.
Gerard Pique can be seen participating in the match between FC Barcelona and Chivas of Guadalajara. There are times when actions speak louder than the written word.
LB: Jordi Alba
Jordi Alba is a recent arrival to FC Barcelona from Valencia. According to ESPN Soccernet, Alba will bring energy to the left back defensive area for La Blaugrana.
RM: Martin Montoya
Montoya is a new generation of midfielders for FC Barcelona. According to the FC Barcelona website, Montoya can be a defender as well as a right midfielder.
CDM: Cesc Fabregas
The decision to include a CDM was between Xavi Hernandez or Cesc Fabregas. It was not an easy decision to make, but Cesc Fabregas was chosen for this slideshow.
Since he signed with FC Barcelona last year, Fabregas has been strong in the center. One of his strengths include assisting with goals.
Fabregas was active in the Spanish Euro 2012 squad. He saved Spain from defeat to Italy with an equalizer between the two teams on their first Euro 2012 match on June 10, 2012.
According to the National Post, Fabregas was instrumental in Spain advancing to the Euro 2012 finals on the basis of penalty kicks.
LM: Andreu Fontas
RF: Dani Alves
While he has been out from a broken clavicle, Alves might still contribute during the next season. My personal feeling is that the next season may be Alves last given his advanced age (being in his 30s) and the injury to the collarbone.
CF: Lionel Messi
Lionel Messi made history during 2011-2012 season with an Barca victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Champions League on March 7, 2012. Messi will probably make history with his impressive plays next season.
LF: Cristian Tello
Cristian Tello was impressive during the UEFA Champions League match between FC Barcelona and Bayer Leverkusen last March. According to an article published in Goal, Eusebio (coach of Barca B) expressed hopes for Tello in the next season.
FC Barcelona belongs to Jordi Alba and a future generation who all could be used potentially in a starting XI position. The purpose was to gradually introduce a new generation of Barca players into a starting XI.
Whether Tito Villanova will start including newer and younger players remain to be seen. Thank you for taking the time to read and look at the slideshow.
Best wishes to all of you until the next time.
