Roethlisberger made key plays including the game winning touchdown pass to Santonio Holmes in the back of the end zone with 35 seconds left in the game. Holmes' two tip toes were in the right corner of the end zone with three Arizona Cardinal defenders around him.
However, Kurt Warner was not done leading his team down field. He started at his own 20 and soon got to midfield in around 18 seconds. The drive was going will until Warner got pressure from the Steelers defensive line and Bert Keisel forced the fumble. But I think that Warner’s hand was in throwing motion, but the red challenge was not thrown, and we will not know what would’ve happened in the final five seconds of the game if the Cardinals had the ball.
The game was full of big plays with Kurt Warner throwing one but a key touchdown to Larry Fitzgerald with 2:37 left that was 64-yards. Before halftime linebacker and Defensive Player of the Year James Harrison returned and interception 100-yards for the score, the longest single play in history. The night was filled with history.
I was thoroughly enjoyed by the half time show with Bruce Springsteen and the East Street Band playing for the fans. Springsteen is promoting his new album “Working on a Dream.” I really enjoyed his songs, “Tenth Avenue Freeze Out”, “Born to Run”, “Working on a Dream”, and “Glory Days”. Bruce looked better than ever and for a 50-year-old man he was not half bad dancing on stage.
Santonio Holmes, wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers, captured the Bart Staar Award (Super Bowl MVP). He had nine receptions for 131 yards to go along with the game winning touchdown which had more excitement than last year’s touchdown pass from Eli Manning to Plaxico Burress.
Holmes follows in the footsteps of former Steelers like Hines Ward, Terry Bradshaw, Lynn Swann, and Franco Harris.
The Steelers have won their sixth Super Bowl, most in the NFL, and Mike Tomlin has become the third Steelers head coach to win a Super Bowl and the second African-American head coach to win a Super Bowl. The first was Tony Dungy.
